The sound on my computer has an echo--I am running Windows XP home Edition. I have updated the drivers and this has not resolved the problem. Could it be a virus?

Hello
Go to control panel sound. Find microphone settings. Click mute microphone then apply.

The echo is from your mic picking up sound then replaying it through your spekers.

People can not hear me but i can hear them

Make sure that the phone isn't muted. There should be a button that looks like a microphone. If it's gray then the phone is muted. If it isn't, try using the camera or something to make sure your phone's microphone isn't broken.

Mic Echoes

Echo is caused by a number of variables. Are you in a large room with mic extended away from you? Mic too far away will create echo. Also try turning down the gain for the mic

I am attaching an external microphone and need to mute the internal mic. They both work and it echos. PLease help.

Adding a mike doesn't create echos/feedback. Windows? Version? Right click on speaker icon in lower right and go to recording device mixers, can mute and adjust level of sound sources, also microphone power and pre-amp. Telephones and other devices (laptops) with both input and output will feedback unless the input is "noise cancelling", so you will have to be much more careful with the placement of the external mike compared to using the built in mike.

Echoing laptop speaker

I hope this can solve your problem. Your computer might have a built in microphone that might be on. Open the Audio Properties and mute the microphone. I didn't think I had a microphone on my computer until I was playing around with a program one day. They can be hidden very well as I still haven't found mine.

However, try that and see if it resolves the problem. If not, at least I eliminated one potential problem. Good luck! :-)

Sound problem

Sounds silly but, try muting your built in microphone, because i'l bet, the mic is picking up the sound from yours speakers and causing the echo. That's wot i've found on a few occassions. Other than that, check sound and video drivers by click Start>Run, then type in 'dxdiag' (without quotes) this will run a diagnostic on audio and video. Please rate this solution
