  • kent ggg Mar 10, 2009

thanks, i didnt think about magnetic waves at all. i was more thinking about the vibration. roughly how far away should i have it away from the back of the tv?..ine question keeps leading to another.

  • kent ggg Mar 10, 2009

also would that be affecting the convergence at all??

  • kent ggg Mar 10, 2009

does that mean sub on either side of the tv...do you know what kind of ic's i will need

  • kent ggg Mar 10, 2009

are ic's and semi conductors the same thing...when ever i look on ic's. it gives me semiconductors

  • kent ggg Mar 10, 2009

The convergence IC's will need to be replaced and all resistors on them checked for thier values for possible replacement as well

if you call a qualified electronics repair shop the cost will be aproximately $350 to $400 or more , depending on shop and location

the IC's are not exspensive ( aprox. $60) , its the labor

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

if the magnetic wave from the subwoofer magnet is close enough or the sub is close enough , then yes this will definately effect the tv.

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

the "CRT" "Cathode Ray Tube" gets effected by strong magnetic waves

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

yes this magnetic wave can and will effect the crt's , you also have to worry about adjusting the convergence to earth's magnetic field , you can see that here http://www.fixya.com/support/p231755-pan...

depending on the strength of the subwoofer and its amp , it should be at least a few feet or so

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

how many watts on the subwoofer amp ? and what size speaker ?

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

this is an ideal setup for the sub

    Left speaker center right speaker

    +++(sub) <----> <----> or subwoofer

    Left surround right surround

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

sorry the tv was supposed to be in the middle

  • jason Mar 10, 2009

IC or "Integrated circuits" is the make up of the "CHIP" and they(Your STK392-110 convergence IC's are semiconductors , but your upgrade should be the STK392-180

    here is the STK392-110 http://www.nteinc.com/specs/7100to7199/p...

  • jason Mar 10, 2009
  • jason Mar 10, 2009

also, yes that part number will work

  • jason Mar 12, 2009

    EXITING SERVICE MODE

    1. power button

    2. unplug from wall(AC)

    3. power button and action button(same time) on tv for at least 2 seconds

  • jason Mar 13, 2009

    convergence IC is out now

  • jason Mar 13, 2009

if you have never soldered or don't know how to get old solder off and check resistor values that are inline with the IC's with a meter , then you will want a tech. to do the repair to make sure that there is not a resistor or other component that is the cause of the STK IC breakdown

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from
www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

hi, sounds like a convergence issue. try this...
  • Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.

  • Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
  • Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
  • Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
  • Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
  • Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
  • Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
  • Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
  • Repeat these steps for all colors.

  • good luck!

Green convergence on Panasonic PT-53WX42 is not ligning up...

Does not sound like the chips are bad.
What you need to adjust is "SKEW". You need to enter "service Mode" then go into "Coarse Convergence". Skew can be adjusted for all 3 colors. Unless you have the service manual, these corrections should not be attempted.

To clean the INSIDE of the screen, you really have to disassemble the TV. Remove all the screws that hold the "back" ( the piece with the mirror) to the front (screen) assembly.
The screen can be cleaned with a solution of diluted isopropyl alcohol, no more than a 50% solution. Drugstores will carry it, but it might be 70%-90%. Just dilute with distilled water (not tap water as it contains minerals). Personally I have used 70% with no ill side effects but 50% is recommended.

    57H81Toshiba Blue Line not straight

You have a bad convergence output IC in the blue vertical circuit. On the bottom side of the chassis you will see a " V " printed by the heat sink. You will need to unsolder the heat sink and the 20 pins on the IC to remove it. Replace with STK 392-180 (sanyo) if possible or STK 392-150. Looking from the rear the heat sinks are big aluminum finned rectangles. There are 2 heat sinks one marked H and one Marked V. Even though you have a horizontal line your problem is in the vertical IC. Be sure to use a liberal dose of heat sink compound.
