How to find cubed root on a TI-89 Titanium calculator

To find the cubed root (or any root) of a number, use the root() function.

If you want the cubed root of 125, you would type:

root(125,3)

An additional way is to take the number to the 1/3 power

E^((ln 8)/3) = 2

In other words, take the log of the number, divide by three and then take the anti-log of the number.

Use the cube root function in the MATH menu.

The TI-89 does not have a cube root function. However, you can calculate any root simply by raising to the reciprocal of the power. For example, to calculate the cube (third) root of 125, press

5 ^ ( 1 / 3 ) ENTER

Use the ^ button. So 4 cubed would be 4^3.

I am aware that this does not fully answer your WHY question but it may help you decide what to do.

On the TI92 Plus, which has the latest OS for that machine 2.09 Advanced mathematics Software one gets the result Pi in EXACT or AUTO modes and 3.1415926536 in APPROXIMATE mode.

However when in EXACT/AUTO mode the calculator displays a warning message Memory Full, Simplification may Not Be Complete. (see screen capture.)

On the Voyage 200 PLT with OS version 3, the same as on the Titanium (not Platinum), I get an undefined result in EXACT MODE and 3.1415926536 in APPROXIMATE MODE.

So you can get the approximate value of the integral on the Titanium or the indefinite integral which you can evaluate between the two boundary points.

Welp on a Ti-93 using the 2nd function click on the function look for the cube root function barring that look for the x root function you can make the x any number root

The TI-89 has one function to find whatever root you want of a number.

To find the cubed root of say...64, you would type:

root(64,3)

To find the cubed root of say...64, you would type:

I have a TI-89 Titanium and I have experienced the same problem. HERE IS HOW TO FIX IT:

Goto "**MODE** " and scroll down the options until you get to

"**COMPLEX FORMAT** " change that option to " __RECTANGULAR__ " and press *ENTER* until you exit out of the " MODE " screen. (very important that you press ' enter ' until you exit because if you don't, it will not save your changes. )
