Question about Maytag EPIC MFW9700S Front Load Washer
Machine had started making a louder noise when spinning tis past weekend. The towels were still soaking when cycle finished. I tried the drain and spin, no luck. The next time I tried it F6 came up.
First empty as much water you can thru the front door. There is the filter located right before the water exit pump. Remove the lower panel by unscrewing 3 screws underneath the panel, slide the panel out. You will see a 3 inch cap facing you. Either you must have a shop wet vac or a nice big plastic bag to collect the water which will leak out, there could be plenty. Clean out the filter, you may find coins too. You can pour some clean water into open machine to wash out the hoses. Replace the filter cap carefully, cover, screws.

I had to have the motor ($175.85) replaced (labor $140 for 2 visits, but really an easy DIY project). The reason was excessive play of the rotor on the axle. The axle is ribbed and the rotor has a similar ribbing, but there was not a tight fit - must be a manufacturing problem. The rotor was loose enough to on occasion grind against the front of the motor housing. The were grinding traces on the rotor and the housing and metal shavings inside. I found this by disassembling the motor, cutting the 4 silver screws with a bolt cutter (one srew has its threads filled to prevent taking it out). The motor was made in Italy. My washer was 1 1/2 years old but has only a 1 year warranty. Calls and a fax to Maytag did not result in any concession on their part -despite an obvious manufacturing defect. My advise: get the repairman out at the first little odd noise and don't buy any other white goods with only a 1-year warranty!

Tips for a great answer:

I no longer post on this site no way to post a Sticky for machine issues.
If you want to DIY the repair Google this phrase ""Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW""" Read the post Part 1; DC or UC unbalance error codes in Spin Cycle what is causing this issue? Part 2 for the fix action.
Post your issue in the repair forum not in the Sticky. Please include your Model Number i.e. FAV6800A or FAV9800A and I will help you.
