Found this in a box of stuff after my friend passed away.

You need to be a licensed Ham Radio Operator. The license is issued by the FCC. You can google Ham radio license prep to get all the information you need to get licensed. Once you have the license you will also get your station call letters. Without them you cannot even try to operate the radio.

Any frequency over 148.000 i cant talk on, i can just listen. anyone know why?yaesuft1900r

The Yaesu FT1900R is an Amateur (Ham) Radio 2-meter Transceiver. Although the receiver covers from 136-174 MHz, will only transmit from 144-148 MHz. Please note that you do need an Amateur (Technician Class or above) License to transmit on the 2-meter Amateur Band. You no longer need to pass a Morse Code test to get an Amateur License. You still have to pass a written exam, but that isn't difficult if you are willing to study a bit. Contact your local Ham Radio Club or the American Radio Relay League (A.R.R.L.) for more information.

I cannot set QT filltering on..why?

Here are the instructions from the manual:

To transmit to a radio that has QT noise filtering turned on:

1. Select the same channel and Interference Eliminator Code as the other radio.

2. Press 'musical note' button to send a call tone. This allows your voice to pass through the QT

noise filter on the receiving radio.

3. Press the PTT and speak normally.

Note: If you skip step 2, the beginning of your message may not be heard on

the receiving radio.

For a 30-second period, starting after the last transmission, all transmissions
received on the selected channel and code will pass through the QT noise filter.

Also, your QT filtering will NOT work if you are in scan mode.

I use a Motorola XTS 5000 2 way radio at work. It displays a message "Key Failure"' and intermittenly beeps. It will not allow transmissions. Can I program a fix or does it need to be repaired?

It needs to be looked by a programming technician in a radio shop. "Key Failure" means that a secure encryption key has not been loaded into the radio and you have set the switch for using encryption to the "on" position. This switch is located under the channel switch on top of the radio and in your case it should be set to the "O" position and not the "O" with the line through it. The XTS radios can be programmed to retain the encryption key when the battery is removed OR to keep the key even if the battery is removed, so it depends on how your radio was programmed as well.

We use Motorola two radios in our fleet of trucks (local gvt agency). We have the software to program the cdm 750. i have a few radios that are asking for the passowrd before it lets me read the device. ...

The radio would have to go to Motorola or a qualified radio repair facility to have the password cleared. In most cases, you would need to provide some proof of ownership.

Best regards.

Mt1000 lock up

I think there is a problem with the Synthetizer, you will need quilyfied service. This could be caused when you change frequency, the Synth, can not be able to "produce" the desired freq. caused for a problem in this area, this causes to the radios get PLL UNLOCKED and this could be the way that the radio give an alert to the user.
