Upon restarting, you can go to boot selection menu by pressing function keys (hp/compaq enters most likely F2, F10 or F11) you may try it one by one.

Boot menu

Your computer's BIOS, or basic input/output system, regulates several important system functions before your operating system loads.
The BIOS can even tell your operating system which device it should load from, whether the computer's hard drive or a USB stick.
You can control this and other options from the BIOS boot menu.
If you own an Acer Aspire One netbook and want to access the boot menu, you can do so by entering the computer's BIOS.

Turn off your Acer Aspire One netbook.
Turn it back on.

Press "F2" when you see the Acer logo appear as the computer boots up.
This will open the computer's BIOS menu.

Press the arrow keys to highlight the Boot option.
Press the down arrow key to highlight specific boot settings to change.

My Easy PC E700 does not complete loading windows

Try repeatedly pressing F8 on startup, before windows starts and in the boot options window, choose to 'repair your computer'. If this doesn't work, or option not available, try booting to F8 menu and choose 'last known good configuration'. One other option is to start in safe mode, again on the F8 menu. Read the popup 'what is safe mode?' to help you troubleshoot the problem. You can then try running antivirus in case the issue is due to infection and you can also check the event viewer. Under 'summary of administrative events' expand the critical and warning event types. You can double click on an event to see more detail.

I have a compaq evo N620c and am trying to format it with xp. right now it doesnt get past the black screen where it says" We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start succesfully" and then...

When you place your Windows XP Disk in the drive, ensure that as the Notebook starts to boot, the words "Press any key to boot from disc ..." is on the screen and then press any key. If you do not get that option choice, go into the Notebooks BIOS and set first boot option to CD or DVD, then try again.
If the system you have on the Notebook is newer than the verion of XP that you trying to install, the Notebook will default to the newer system. A real pain! so make it boot from the CD not the hard drive with the bios settings.

I have compaq pc presario c300 i cant open windows meaning when i start up my laptop the xp window is just come n go faster (popUp)

When you boot up press F8 function key and Windows will give a list of boot options, select Last Known Good Configuration and hopefully Windows will start up correctly. If not boot up again, press F8 and select Safe Mode and Windows should boot up in standard VGA display mode.
If this doesn't work you need the Compac restore CD disk that came with your laptop. Boot up with this CD to restore your laptop, you most likely will lose data.

Startup with F12

Welcome to FixYa! Delete is the BIOS setup key at POST. F12 is a one-time boot option. Safe mode is accessed by repeatedly pressing the F8 key at the first Windows splash screen. Post again if you have further questions. Steve
