Hi - I just bought a Dell Latitude C610 Laptop. The issue is that once you turn it on, after the Dell logo goes, it takes aprox. 18 minutes to boot to the desktop. The laptop has 256MB of RAM (which I will buy an xtra 512MB at least), 30GB hard disk and the BIOS version are up to date (latest bios version is A16 according to Dell website). I'm not sure that 256mb of memory will slow it down like this on bootup. It may be possible that this is a hardware issue but do not have the troubleshooting CD for it. Any ideas I will greatly appreciate. Thank you beforehand.\r\n

Did you buy this from an individual? The computer is no speed demon at 1-GHz/733-MHz
Pentium III-M CPU, 256MB of SDRAM, 512KB L2 cache, however it should not take 18 minutes to boot.
If I were in your shoes I would reformat and reinstall the OS and start over, especially if you got this from an individual.
The boot time should greatly improve! I think it is loaded down with the bloat of **** the last person had on it.
If you do not want to reformat, here are some tips, and programs to run to increase performance.
go to start - run - type msconfig hit enter,
startup tab uncheck everything not needed at startup time. www.ccleaner.com - get it and run it on the laptop, clean it out. Make sure you run the registry cleaner too!
Make sure you run a good online virus scan! like trend micro house call.
That should speed it up a little if you cannot reformat it and start over.

I would suggest you try safe mode.
Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words "Safe Mode" appear in the corners of the display to identify which Windows mode you are using. If an existing problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one, to see if a program might be the cause of the problem.
Follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:
1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
6. You should see drivers loading, and then please wait.
7. You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
8. Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.

Manual. I suspect that the information you have been given regarding battery removal and passwords refers to removing the cmos battery as in a PC in the hope that it will clear Bios activated passwords.
You will need to check your outgoing smtp settings in yahoo. Below is the information to set this up. 1) Yahoo! Mail Settings (if allowed)

This can be for a number of reasons. First thing would be to try and cold boot the device:- Remove battery half way, hold power button and trigger, push battery in fully until click and then release power and trigger If that fails next thing would be to try and re-flash the operating system. This is done by using an SD card and loading the latest operating files onto it. The SD card slot is located under the keypad. A cross head screwdriver is required to remove the keypad. Search on symbol software download site for the latest. The download also has a readme with detailed instructions. Once the files are on perform a cold boot. Remove battery half way, hold power button and trigger, push battery in fully until click and then release power and trigger. Drop the terminal in a cradle so that it runs on external power.
