Question about Dell Computers & Internet

The sound board on my Dell Dimension E520 seems to be malfunctioning. No sound from my speakers.

Did it work before? Have you made any changes--such as moving your computer or the speakers. I ask this because many times people move something around and they unplug something.
You can check the following: If everything is plugged in and turned on, have you muted the volume (go to accessories and entertainment and volume control to see if the mute square is checked). Go to the control panel and open the sounds icon. Click on sounds and choose a sound and then click the preview arrow. If all has checked out so far, then your sound card may be bad. If the preview arrow is grayed out, then your sound drivers have been uninstalled or become corrupt. You will have to reinstall them.

Go to the dell site and download the drivers for your sound card (2 possible drivers) so I don't know which you will need.

Drivers are here

reinstall the drivers and see if that resolves your issue.

Sound Card Damaged/Broken??


Right-Click on My Computer, select Properties > Hardware > Device Manager

Once in there, is anything in the list flagged? If not, then it's definitely possible that your on-board sound went bad. Luckily you can install a PCI card that will perform the same purpose for little money. A decent option would be:

My daughters Dell Dimension has a crackly sound output. I have tried changing speakers/headphones, which made no difference. Help please!


If that is the case then you must take an option of using a separate sound card aside from the motherboard onboard audio device.

look on device manager sound is install or not if not install there yellow exlamation sign. keep bord rdiver and click right mouse then get update driver click on it. go control panel look on speaker sound and speaker setting.

Check to see if you have a sound card in a pci slot or if the sound is intergrated into the motherboard. If its in the board you can get the driver from the computer or motherboard manufacturer. If its a pci card get the driver from the card manufactures website

Ok
Do the following, power up the PC and hit F12
Select DIAGNOSTICS - let em load and run only the sound test. This will make sure the speakers and cable are working. (make sure thewy are plugged into the right hole) then power on the system and hit F2 to enter the BOIS and make sure you disable on the on-board sound card. This is the one that is on the motherboard not the add in card.
Reboot the system and then try your speakers in the SB card and see what happens

Went from a Dell Dimension 8250 to a Dell Optiplex GX280


Check for updated drivers and install if available. If that does not resolve the issue completely remove the card and any software and drivers and do a clean install with the new drivers
