Re: How do I ADJ the convergence on my PTL555U projector?
These adjustments are internal to the machine, It is not a recommended user adjustment. Typically these are set at the factory under controlled conditions using a known signal source. Also, I'm not 100% sure about your model (I'll investigate further), but it may not be adjustable at all. How far out does the convergence appear to be? Can you see it under normal use conditions or only when using the test pattern?

you need to check: the Vga cables if the image shown is that from a computer firstly check if the Panasonic logo comes ok in the beginning if ok then try connecting a laptop directly thru a short patch cable to the computer port of the projector[i am assuming that the projector has been installed to the ceiling] if this works ok , then the projector is fine! you need to figure out the problem with the vga cabling and switchers if any of them are used!
power ON your projector and laptop
connect your laptop and projector with VGA cable and press
if your laptop PANASONIC or NEC (Fn+F3) ACER, HP,SHARP,TOSHIBA (Fn+F5) LENOVO, SONY (Fn+F7)
DELL, EPSON (Fn+F8)
If problem exist remove the VGA driver in your laptop and reinstall the correct driver not a standard display driver
This is a convergence problem that will require factory service. Convergence adjustments must be made with particular test images and tools to access the internal adjustments. This is not a DIY repair.
my dear friend, it appears that you must have opened the 3 lcd screws that are not supposed to be touched, if so then just forget reassembling the same as the convergence would be lost & cannot be manually done another thing are the polarisers.if excessive dust had accumulated & if you used wrong technique in cleaning then the coating would have come off & you have lost everything , just change the entire lcd block.this costs a bomb.beter to buy a new projector
I have the same Hitachi CP-S860 and have found the problem is with the convergence on the left and right sides of the picture. The one I am working on has a bad ghosting problem also - you can really see the ghosting when the MENU is on the screen. The center convergence is OK. Following Pics show Circle / Cross pattern - 1st pic the red, green and blue are turned on - 2nd pic shows green and blue on only. I do not have the service manual for this set so I do not know the convergence procedure on this one. I have mostly been repairing NEC, Sanyo, Panasonic and Christie LCD & DLP Projectors.
that projector has not been made for some time (7-9 years I believe) so there are probably several thousand hours on the projector, and at about 2500 to 3000 hours your panels start to fail,, sounds like the LCD panels are warping, and you are loosing convergence.
that projector would cost about $500.00 to replace with a newer brighter unit, with a new warranty.
but the "E" means this unit is for europe only, so your prices may vary
