Question about Aprilaire 550 Humidifier

1 Answer

Have solenoid: MOPD 125, WATT 2.3, VOLT 24/60, for Aprilaire 560 Humidifier. With a M15 Universal tester using 150mA for + & K OHMS FOR -, I get 2 ohms on scale which would be approx 200 ohms. Ohms = Volts sq/watts = 24 sq/2.3 = 250. If this is correct, the power to new selenoid should activate it, but it doesn't. Have checked furnance terminals & get same reading. Original Humidifier 1998 solenoid replaced in 2004, this one stopped recently. I'm I testing correctl? Other reasons why selenoid isn't working? Thanks

I am guessing you have sent 24 volts to the solenoid directly and the the solenoid did not activate?

If you have not send power directly

If the solenoid does not activate that way more then likely needs a new solenoid.

My aprilaire model 560 is constantly clicking loudly. I read about the click point but despite where I set the dial it is constantly clicking whenever the furnace kicks on. What can I do?

Check all wire connections for tightness. Those solenoids on the humidifiers will eventually need to be replaced. Try turning the dial all the way up to the test position if it is still clicking you may just need a new solenoid.

I have a model 560 Aprilaire humidifier thay doesn't work. I replaced the solonoid valve and it still doesn't work. What's my next move?

The system is 24 volt AC so start by checking the voltage from the transformer to make sure it is approximately 24 volts AC. The current will flow through the humidistat when continuity is made at the control as the humidistat senses that your house needs moisture. Disconnect the wires from the himidistat and set it to a high level, you should hear a click on the way up. With the 24 volt wires disconnected, check for continuity with a volt meter. If you don't have continuity replace it. Current also flows through an inductive sensor switch that hang on a wire from the blower. When the blower wire has current flowing through it, the switch senses that an closes makin the connection. With both wires disconnected from the 24 volts you can test for continuity when the blower is running. Overall, this is a continuous circle of wiring and is not directional like DC so think of the wiring a a big loop. The correct current has to flow through the transformer, through the humidistat, through the blower switch, through the solenoid completing the the circle before the solenoid will activate. Hope this helps.

Aprilaire model 560 pan keeps filling up with water - what adjustments do I need to do?

Here's a link to the manual for your Aprilaire model 560 humidifier you can download and print for free.

According to Aprilaire, it is normal for there to be excess water going into the drain pan. However, the drain pan should have a drain line connected to it so the contaminents from the humidifier can be flushed down a drain and away from the unit. (see page 2 Principle of Operation).

They further state that the water valve should only be either fully on or fully shut off and do not attempt to regulate water flow with the inlet supply valve.

http://www.aprilaire.com/themes/aa/en/manuals/Humidifiers_Owners_Manual.pdf

I would give the unit a good cleaning of the pan, locate the drain connection and attach a drain line to your unit as is required for proper operation and function/

Hope you find this Very Helpful - Best regards!

Aprilaire Model 560bone dry, water is on, what can I check?

Yes, just check to see if you have 24 volts going into the solenoid. If you do and it is not opening its probably bad. Since you verified the water lines, filter, orifice and saddle valves are not obstructed. Change the solenoid valve. When you price the part. (it's not cheap) consider paying about 30% more and just change the whole unit.

Aprilaire 560 constantly drains water

check to see if you have 24 volts between to 2 yellow wires coming out of the water solenoid. if you have 24v, then it is still getting energized to run. if it does not have 24v and the water is still running, the solenoid is stuck open. most likely from water deposits. sometimes you can take the solenoid apart and clean it, but probably better off just getting a new solenoid.
