1TB Western Digital External keeping system from booting up

Recently purchased a 1 TB "My Book" Essential Edition external HD. When it is plugged itn will not allow my XP SP3 computer to boot up. I unplug the "My Book" Essential and my computer boots. Once the computer boots up I can turn on the "My Book" Essential and it is recognized by my system and performs the way it is supposed to. Western Digital has no answer, they say I have to live with it the way it is. Any suggestion(s) on how this problem can be remedied?

You need to go into the BIOS of your computer and change the boot order of your computer.  Your computer must be set to boot from your main hard drive only.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Multiple Western Digital My Book 1 Tb not registering

The naming wouldn't affect the drives appearing. Sometimes, the drive letters can become a problem (from experience). This happens when both drives try to occupy the same letter. Open disk management and check to see if both drives are visible at the top. If so, manually, right click on one of them and select "change drive letter and path". Select something, you know isn't normally occupied.

Windows Server trying to boot from external hard drive

go into your 'update settings'. there is a section of where it asks you about how you want your settings set and where to send updates to. You may find the problem here. Check all the 'advanced' settings as well. If your Western digital is plugged in via USB and not requiring updates, unplug it while starting your system, after complete start up, reinsert the USB plug. It may show new devise found, then from here, you may be asked to reinstall it to stop the rebooting.
