VX922 Viewsonic flashing

My name is Ken. I'm a Vietnam Era vet and a disability retiired firefighter. I paid my bills and have nothing left. I just found this site and I promise you, if I had any money left, I'd gladly pay this reasonable fee. The problem I have with my vx922 seems to be a very common one. Do you know of any siolutyions or repair options? I cannot afford to buy a new one obviously. I greatly appreciate your help!

Wow, you guys are fast! Thanks a lot for the help! It is the power light that's flashing. I had a similar problem with one of them before and sent it back under warranty. Both are doing the same thing and, I found out, are still under warranty. If I can try something without sending it in (at my expense), that would be great!

  • Sigmund51 Mar 06, 2009

P.S. I think, from what I'm reading here, that both are in State # 2.

  • Sigmund51 Mar 06, 2009

I'm using the same cables, video card, etc with a small working monitor so I dont think it would be cables, although I've seen weirder things happen. I'm just really out of touch.

Thanks a lot for your help. At least now I'll know what to do when it first starts. I will be back though. I appreciate having an inexpensive place to ask questions vs. $75 for Microsoft or whatever they charge these days.

Ken when you say flashing, is the screen flashing or the Power Indicator on the front of the monitor?

In order to resolve this without major expense, a component level repair would be necessary. Without previous repair experience with this type of equipment, I would not recommend an attempt at this. I realize that sending the unit in is not the preferred option, but since you still have a valid warranty, that is the correct action to take.

If you feel that the time for a warranty repair is too long, please post your general location and I will attempt to get a local repair shop to assist.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Ken, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.

The flashing light is not the problem, like temperature on human beings, the flashing light is just telling you that something is wrong.

When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1 The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr suddenly are a blown capacitor on power board, the inverter board powering up backlight lamp has blown, or a fault on main lcd controller board.

Hi, I forgot to mention, check also the video cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Check connectors, try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

    Regards

Since you hadd confirmed that the monitor is faulty with a swap then it seems that the input signal processor is faulty.
Only a signal test will confirm the fault in the stage , so check from the power supply section to see if the set has tripped off due to a protection- if so check the output drivers.

Looking like there is an issue with the powerboard on the monitor. This problem you are having appears to be common with this monitor, with a lot of them failing for no apparent reason

Green light flashing on and off and computer screen will turn on when feels like it

The flashing green power button is a well known electronic problem with this (and other) Viewsonic LCD monitors. There is YouTube video (do a search) showing how to disassemble the VX924 (very similar to the VX922) and find out whether the problem is related to blown capacitors. When I took my VX922 apart I discovered 6 bad capacitors out of a total of 7 on the power supply circuit board.

You may want to look into your video card settings about the vertical settings. Most monitors usually have just a millimeters off. I suggest to contact your computer manufacture or video card manufacture.

Viewsonic Monitor problem, blinking LED light, no picture.

you guys......you don't have a software (driver, refresh rate, etc.) problem. When you first power up the monitor, do you get any display at all (ex, "analog input" or "No input signal")? Of course not - that's because you have a hardware problem with the monitor. Go here and watch the youtube video on how to take apart your monitor and find and replace the "domed" capacitors that have blown:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247964-33-viewsonic-vx922-monitor-black-screen-green-power-light-flashes

Fortunately I only had 1 ($1.76 at Radio Shack). I replaced it in less than 30 minutes and my monitor showed "no input signal" upon powerup as expected because I wasn't connected to my pc which is full of all kinds of drivers and refresh settings, etc.
