Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1: Windows
I accidently deleted userinit file from system32 folder and when the computer is restarted its not allowing me to log on , it kicks me back to the user logon screen. is there any way that i can restore this file from xp cd?? or whats the best way to fix this? i have tons of data in my computer and i reallly dont want to do a reinstallation. please help ASAP.
my operating system is XP home SP2.
Insert the original Windows XP CD (Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is preferred, but not required) and reboot the computer. You may need to configure your computer to boot from the CD-ROM drive. When the Windows XP Setup has started, press "R" to "repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console".
Select the Windows installation to repair (generally this is C:\Windows) by typing its number and then pressing ENTER.
Type the Administrator password and press ENTER.
Type the following commands:
CD I386 [ENTER]
EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 [ENTER]
NOTE: If your CD-ROM drive has a different letter assigned to it, enter "X:" instead, where X is the appropriate drive letter.
After entering "EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32" you should see the text "1 file(s) copied", in which case all went well.
Remove the Windows XP CD, type "EXIT" and press ENTER to restart your computer. You should now be able to log on as normally.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
