Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB6100A Built-in Dishwasher
My Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher runs way too long. Even on the short cycle, it runs over two hours. The regular cycle is over three hours. The water is red hot so it's not like the machine has to run long to heat the water. It has digital controls, so I can't manually advance the dial. It's totally unnecessary for a d/w to run this long, so I'm wondering if I can program it, or change a computer chip, to make it run for a reasonable time period. Our old Magic Chef dishwasher got everything just as clean in an hour. It's only two months old, and I don't want to replace it, but if I can't find a solution, I may have to. Thanks.
FYI... I followed Miss Midget's steps... and there it was... a piece of plastic... actually one of the end caps from the rack. Poor design if you ask me. So for all you "grinders" out there, it's an easy fix... just need the appropriate star screwdriver. It went back together easier than it did taking it apart. Thanks.

A water softner will not make the dishes any cleaner, it just makes it so they don't have water spots on them.
If the dishes are dirty, it is most likely that the nozzles (holes) in arms may be plugged.
Also check to make sure you are getting plenty of water to dishwasher. Make sure all water valves are full turned open.
If the control panel does not work all the time, it is very likely you have either a shorted wire, or a fualty main board which is very common in newer machines.

SOURCE: I have a Maytag dishwasher
Hi Terry, Welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
A few things can cause this. Most of the time it is drain related with the Air-Gap being the culprit that is restricting drain flow. If the dishwasher drain has a restriction when the pump motor shuts off the water left in the hose BEFORE the restriction gravity drains back into the dishwasher.
If you have an Air-gap Take a look at this link: http://www.ehow.com/how_6327450_clean-air-gap-dishwasher.html
- Basically you pull off the cover by lifting straight up. Unscrew the cap nut in the top, Lift out the cap NOTING the installed position as it will only install ONE way. Remove the debris under the cap and clear the passages. (Sometimes you have to remove the lower hoses and use a wire coat hanger or large plastic zip / cable tie) Reinstall / assemble everything on the Air-Gap.
- ALSO check the sink connection or garbage disposal port for obstructions. Sometimes it is easier to just remove the hose from the sink / garbage disposal connection to clear any obstructions.
- If the problem persists the blockage may be at the pump motor connection. Again remove the hose and inspect for blockage. Install the hose when your finished.
This should pretty much get you going. If after doing all of the above there is more that can but done inside the dishwasher. I think this is all you will need to do. Just respond here if your problem is persistent. I will gladly help you.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
