Opening Your Document
Open your Microsoft Word document by double-clicking the Word icon on your desktop. If you do not see the icon on your desktop, then you can locate it where it is buried on your "Start" menu. Select a different margin size, such as "Narrow," which indicate 1/2-inch margins, or "Wide," which indicate one-inch margins on the top and bottom and two-inch margins on the left and right. You also can select "Moderate," which indicate one-inch margins on the top and bottom and 3/4-inch margins on the left and right. Finally, you can select "Mirrored," which indicates one-inch margins for the top, bottom and outside. The inside margins are set at 1 1/4 inches.

you need to reset the margins , top bottom and sides in the printer settings , not on the document page

try setting the bottom margin to zero on the computer the printer will automatically do it

The portion within the Margins can only be printed, lessen the top margin at bit.
I remember the top margin for default is 1', change it to 0.5' or 0.6'

In Office < 2007 (Margins are in File > Page Setup)
In Office 2007 (Margins are in Page Layout > Margins > Set it to Narrow)

Note: If you printer is non-Laser (I mean if it is Ink-Jet) Do not make the margins too less, the printer won't be able to print it.

Often times, some documents might have their margins or header/footers set to high for the printer to handle. Try opening the document and checking the margins, one inch all around is usually the default margin settings.

it is alignment problem that can be sorted out only at service station

Check your paper size setting at the printer.  It may think you are using Legal when using Ltr.

Go to the printer properties and try setting it up with border less printing.
