Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 10 Series II Typewriter

1 Answer

IBM WheelWriter 10 Series II not functioning.

Was working fine; use only occasionally. I turn on; only one beep, no lights, no movement. Replaced batteries, cleaned and lubricated everything. What's going on?

As I stated, I cleaned everything, I used compressed air and special dust aerosol to wipe down then oil appropriate parts.
Now, As I stated I replaced batteries, thus wonder what the batteries control and since that was obvious that batteries needed replacing then maybe it is still the source of the problem?

Could be many things. Take off the case and look for parer clips, staples or other debris on or under the PC board or in the power supply.

It is most likely a bad keyboard. You can try my fix under WW1000 or contact Geo. Beyers Co. for a rebuild.

IBM Wheelwriter #5 - The line space keys are flashing and the typewriter will not work. I unplugged it and replaced the batteries.

There are a lot of possibilities. Which lights are flashing? In sequence? Beeps? How many?

These all are codes to the problem.

No lights, no beeps, no movement? Probably a power supply.
But check the outlet and power cord.

Carriage wont respond

Perhaps the L. Mar. is set there. Turn it on wait for the por sequence to complete, touch the mar rel key, back space to the far left, press L. mar key. If that dosen't do it tou must have some lights flashing and/or beeping, What lights and how many beeps?

either the carriage home position sensor flag is broken or the daisy wheel can't find home. try removing daisy wheel and re-installit. turn unit on and see if daisy wheel spins if it does then the carriage home position sensor has a problem.

Check in the area where the printwheel is installed for paper or other debris. If it does the same thing with the printwheel out then it is probably a printwheel sensor.

It sounds like the keyboard is bad. Check the two bflat connectors from the keyboard to the PC board, if they are connected ok a keyboard is in order.

Try a little light oil on the printer shaft. WD40 works well.
