If you don't have the password to log into the router's configuration using a wired PC, you'll need to reset the router using the little button located on the back or bottom of the router. This will reset it to the default factory settings and clear all configuration.

Hi just iwant to put security # or password on my d- link router so imean nobody can can get acsses to the internet. thanks

WPA is a strong form of wireless encryption, however not all wireless adapters support this feature. If your wireless adapter does not support WPA you will want to use WEP to secure your wireless network.

You can find information on configuring your WBR router for WEP here

Step 1: Open a web browser and type the IP address of the WBR series router into the address bar (default is http://192.168.0.1).

Step 2: The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click on OK.

Step 3: Click on the Setup tab at the top and then click on Wireless Settings on the left-hand side.

wpapsk01.jpg

Step 4: Select the type of WPA encryption you would like to use with your wireless adapter from the Security Mode drop down menu. For WPA-PSK select Enable WPA- Personal Wireless Security (enhanced).

Note: All wireless products on the wireless network must have the same level of security to connect to the network.

Step 5: In the WPA Personal section, configure the following:

  • Select the Cipher Type
  • Select the PSK or EAP
  • Enter your Passphrase
  • Re-Enter your Passphrase
Step 6: Click the Save Settings button to save your settings.

Setting secured wireless connection

You can enable WEP on your router.

In the address bar of your browser, type 192.168.0.1 to access the setup page of the Dlink router.

By default the username is admin and leave the password blank.

On the Setup page, go to Wireless.

Security Mode should be WEP then click Next.

You can change the WEP KEY 1. Make sure you remember this because you will need to enter this on your wireless computer.

Save the settings.

I hope this helps!

I want to take the security lock off my belkin f5d8233 because I restore my lap top to its original settings and I forgot my security codes.

Step 1 : Open RSP by typing 192.168.2.1 on the address bar of internet explorer

Step 2 : On the left Hand Side Under Wireless Click Security

Step 3 : Leave the password Blank And Click Submit

Step 4 : You Can Find the security code that you have enabled here

In case if it is a bunch of dots uncheck Obscure PSK in WPA

In WEP the key1 is the Password

And if you are changing the password make sure you change the ssid ( Name of the network ) or remove the preferred networks on your computer before connecting to it

How do I put an encryption on my linksys router?

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. This can be done by:
  • Enabling WEP or WPA on the Router
  • Enabling Wireless MAC filter on the Router
  • Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
NOTE: The wireless security modes available may vary depending on the model of the router and wireless adapter you are using.
Enabling WEP on the Router
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wirelesssecurity which does not change. It provides comparable confidentialityto a traditional wired network. There are two types of WEP you canchoose from:
a. WEP 64-bit: This type of WEP consists of 10-hexadecimal codes. To enable WEP 64-bit, click here.
b. WEP 128-bit:This type of WEP consists of 26-hexadecimal codes hence it is moresecured compared to WEP 64-bit. To enable WEP 128-bit, click here.
Enabling WPA on the Router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless securitywhich is dynamic in nature. Meaning, it changes depending on the timerenewal you will specify. Hence, WPA is more secured compared to WEP.
  • Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (WPA-TKIP) – utilizes a stronger encryption method and incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers.
  • Advanced Encryption System (WPA-AES) – utilizes a symmetric 128-bit block data encryption
To enable WPA, click here.
Enabling Wireless MAC Filter on the Router
Wireless access can be filtered using the MAC address of thewireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You caneither permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to yourwireless network.
To permit wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
To prevent wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
Disabling the SSID broadcast is one way of securing your wirelessnetwork. This procedure will prevent other users from detecting yourSSID, or your wireless network name, when they attempt to viewavailable wireless networks in your area. For instructions, click here.

Wireless security via MAC address

I would enable WPA encryption and keep the MAC security on. Even though no other computers can connect due to the MAC security, without the encryption your network still looks wide open and it will tempt people to connect. At least if they see there is some sort of encryption on they will not even bother with trying to connect to it.

Please help!

1. Click Start, Run, CMD, hit enter and write down the ip address of your default gateway.

2. Open your web browser, in the address bar type http://(ip of default gateway).

3. Type 'admin' for both username and password. If this doesn't work try using admin for just the password.

4. Go to wireless settings and first make sure that the SSID broadcast is enabled, if not enable it. Second, go to the wireless security section and choose an encryption method, i recommend wpa personal. Use a passcode that is easy for you to remember, you will need to enter it before you can access the internet wirelessly.

Do you see a little monitor Icon in the lower left bottom. If so go ahead and right click on it and select wireless connections , If not open network connections, now you should see detect wireless networks, Click on that,( IF SO ) Now you should get a window that shows your wireless connections, Select the network you have by clicking on it, and then in the lower left of the window Opened you should see a connect button, select that, you should be able to go online now if not let me know, there are some other things we can try to get you up and running just write back here if it does not work and as soon as I get this I will get back to you. I am sure its nothing we can't solve. Ok thanks bear001
