I have replaced the battery on my acer extensa laptop but it will not charge. Could the power supply cord be bad?

Its possible, do you know anyone with the same make of lapop? if you do try their adapter, but check the input voltage of you laptop (written on the bottom label, or right next to the input) and the voltage of the power supply (on the label of the power supply) before plugging it in. The vast majority of laptops are 19v but it will damage your battery if the voltage is incorrect.

If you dont then you can pick up a laptop charger on ebay with multiple ends on ebay for about £15. They obviously carry no garuntee and you run a small risk of getting a dodjy one but they are much cheaper than the £60 or so your laptop manufacturer will charge.

And you havn't wasted your money on a new battery, they are always useful, you old battery will eventually give up anyway!

It could be the power cord if without the battery the laptop will not power up with the cord.

However, if it does power on, the power cord is fine and it could be a motherboard problem

Acer Extensa 5235 wil not power on

The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:

1.) Your charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.

2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.

3.) Your battery is faulty.

I think possibility 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test possibility 3 by removing the battery and plugging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.If it does power on then that rules out possibility 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.

My acer extensa 5620z does not charge nor works connected

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Acer Extensa 5230E laptop not charging

More than likely you need to check your DC Power Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop. If it is loose or broken, it will not charge the battery and will not boot.

Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

My acer aspire 8930 suddenly stopped charging the battery. We put it in my husband's identical laptop and it charged fine. I researched on net and using info found, turned laptop on with battery r

Just because all systems look go. Does not mean the power cord is working correctly and the charging portion of the power supply unit may not be working you will still be able to power the computer on but not charge replace that unit and you should be back up and charging again. You know it is not a battery problem it is the cord and component due to your test. Makes sense to me also one other factor to consider, the battery may be charging but will not hold the charge be sure to fully charge the battery and see how long it takes to drain down. Just a suggestion. John

Acer extensa 4620 z will not power on have a new ac adapter and power cord . i can charge battery and charge battery light comes on but push power button and nothing

Try the following, one at a time.

- Remove battery then connect power cord, then power on
- Remove the memory modules then power on
- Remove the other optical drives, then power on
- Remove other components, then power on.

This process is to illiminate the faulty component. It is possible that one component is faulty and is causing shortage that's why your laptop won't power.

If this doesn't work then you need to remove the internal components like hdd.

Hope it helps.

I have a acer extena 4420-5239 that the dc jack inside has come loosa and will not make a connection to power up. Can that be fixed or is it connected to to board

Yes it can be soldered back onto the system board.

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

My laptop acer extensa 4420 5239 will not power on.The battery light goes green if i charged it fine. It seems that the switch is having a problem or might be the power supply. how would i know?. please...

Probably there is a problem with your battery charger or power supply. It might not charging your battery. The only reason why the laptop would not power on if there is no power supply coming in, either from a battery or a direct connection from the power supply. You can check your battery charger or power supply using a multimeter. Check if there is a voltage reading coming from your charger.

Acer extensa 5620 will power on. The battery light on with the battery and power cord. But it will light on with the just the power cord or jujst the battery.

As long as it is working OK, then the battery light, is only an indicator, A laptop should work, either way, with just the battery, or just the Power Supply, and of course both. Try adjusting you Power Settings and see if that alters anything. Also consult you manual about the issue.

My acer doesnt power on at all i plugged it in to the charger and it wont charge power light doesnt even light up and i plugged it in with no battery and still nothing. any ideas on whats wrong with it?...

Check it by putting it on another Power Adapter. It sounds to me as if the Power Supply has failed... Thats the bit that supplies DC.. to the laptop, and charges the battery, they fail frequently. Take it to a PC store and ask them to test it with another supply. The Power Supply MUST be the same specs tho.

Acer extensa 5620 laptop will not boot uo

Then you can check 2 things to see if the machine will boot. If not, then you'll need to get it repaired. FYI, I repair Acers.

Step 1 - remove the battery and the A/C adapter from the back of the computer for about 2 minutes. Replace the battery and the adapter and try to start the machine. If that doesn't work, go to step 2.

Step 2 - Check that the A/C adapter is getting power and the LED for battery charging on the front of the computer lights. You can check the voltage from the power supply with a volt meter, if you have one -- it should read around 18-19 volts. If either of these steps don't work, you'll need to get it looked at.

Problems could be with the power supply, motherboard, power switch, CPU or something else that only time and expertise could properly track down.
