How to reset the lamp timer for Panasonic DLP TVs.

When you replace the lamp on a Panasonic DLP or LCD TV you will need to reset the lamp timer to zero for the TV to reset the lamp timer and extinguish the change lamp indicator.

There are two methods used depending on which model TV you have. The older units use the first method and newer units use the second method. You can tell which method you need to use by whether you have a PIP and/or SPLIT button on your remote. If you have them use the first method, if you don't use the second method.

Method number 1 (for older units):

Follow the procedure below. You use either PIP or SPLIT button depending on whether your remote has SPLIT or not. Some do not.

Perform lamp timer reset only when the lamp has been replaced. The idea is to know when to replace the lamp before the end of it's life when it could explode or short out causing a hazadous condition. If you reset the lamp circuit at any other time the replace lamp warning will not come on at the recommended interval.

Be sure the power cord is plugged into a properly grounded wall outlet.
Then, press the POWER button on the projection display or the remote control to turn the unit on.

While pressing the VOL- button on the projection display, hold down the
PIP or SPLIT button on the remote control at same time for more than 5 seconds.

If your remote does not have a split button you use PIP, if it has a split button, you would use SPLIT.

When reset procedure is complete, the screen on the TV will indicate that the lamp has been reset. When lamp time reset is finished, the LAMP indicator goes out.

Method number 2 (for newer units):

Press volume down on the TV and the zero button on the remote at the same time for longer than 5 seconds and it will reset the lamp to zero.

These procedures should reset your lamp timer and you will be good until the current lamp fails or the change lamp indicator illuminates again signalling that it is time to replace the lamp. Three to six years on average depending on how much you run the unit per day. Do not ignore the indicator. Change the lamp immediately to avoid further damage and expense or worse.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

T.v.says lamp not working

If the display indicates then it is possible that the lamp has failed or that the Power to the lamp is cut off. You will need to check the status of the lamp and also the lamp connectors, the supply from the power.
Check to see if the cooling fan is clogged and so has reset the processor with a error. If so clean the filter to reset.

I replaced the lamp with the proper part #UX21513 and followed all instructions, but the lamp indicator is still flashing red and the TV doesn't come on. Is the lamp defective or is there a reset button...

There is no reset button for the lamp. My first resolution would be to unplug the TV, pull the lamp and try to reseat it. Sometimes the contacts are not perfect. Make sure that all panels and doors are closed as many units have a switch that must be activated with a pin on the panel and/or door. This would also keep the lamp from striking.
Also, some units have a default reset and that is done by pressing and holding the on/off button as you plug the power cord back in. Follow up with results.

There is a short somewhere in the sweep Horizontal, or vertical, or the sweep power supply has a fault. not really a job for the consumer , unless you know about solid state electronics.
