I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a Abit BX6 mainboard that doesn't detect my new 40GB quantum lct20 U/ATA 100 7200rpm.
The abit web page mentioned that this problem exist and the latest bios update would fix it but I tried it and had no luck. Then I went to Quantum web site and they had an utility that would make HDD from U/ATA 100 to U/ATA 33 so that the bios could recognise the HDD but that didn't work also.
I went to Award web site and apparently there is a problem with award bios dated before 10/28/98 and mentiones that need to contact your manufacturer for bios update. I have sent many email to Abit but haven't had any responses.

Quantum 40 gig ATA drive shows there are OS files on the drive, HD verifies, and everything seems OK while in the OS disk mode [OS 10.4 or OS 9.1], but when i try to start up on just the hard drive, it doesn't read the hard drive. i have tried Master and CS position, and have used other HDs with this machine/configuration with no problems. am i missing anything? probably obvious, maybe? the Mac is a G3 B&W.
