Alarm is going off. When I open it and look at the 6 hard drives inside the top one doesn't have a green light on, instead it is flashing orange and green. How do I fix this?

Remove the drive and clone it to a new one or use the raid software to rebuild to a new one.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

Our Hard drive is failing due to reported mechanical error ---- not software problems. Two companies have been unable to retrieve vital scientific data and a third company has stated it is impossible to...

There is not much you can do except try some other data recovery companies.
If your data is very important, in future you should consider doing data backups on a daily basis and/or build a fail safe computer or server system using RAID hard drives configured as a mirrored hard drives or a RAID 5 system with hot swappable hard drives. Also consider installing a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) to prevent a computer and server shutting down from power outages as this can will corrupt your data.
I hope you will take this advice seriously.

Is a power edge 1750 power supply hot swappable?

In short, yes. Both the harddrives and power supplies are hot-swappable. Please note that this assumes that you have the unit configured with 2 power supplies.

No problem as such - can you tell me whether G510 has USB port to take USB tape back up device ?

Hello,

Yes, the G510 has two (2) 1.1 USB ports and should function well with a USB tape back up device.

Yes, it i means it is one of your power supplies failing or not getting power. It took a while to find out but it is bloody marvelous once you figure out that you do not have to buy a new server

I have an IBM eserver x series 255 and i just replaced the scsi drive on it but i still see the drive in failed status i want to know where in the bios do i go to configure the new drive?

If this drive is hot swappable, and it's a part of a RAID array, the RAID controller should handle the rebuild of the drive automatically. There are two easy ways to configure the new drive. 1 - reboot the server, wait for the ServerRAID BIOS to start, then press Ctrl + I (or whatever it says) to enter the mini configuration wizard. Once you're in there, you can view and configure the drive as needed. If you installed the replacement drive, and the status light of the new drive is blinking orange/amber, it probably means that the controller has begun rebuilding the array and you just have to wait. Depending on the size of the drive, and the amount of data, and the speed of your controller, rebuilding of a failed drive can take hours.
