Consider NOT using the USB connection.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

SOURCE: using vivicam 8400 as webcam

You can't. The 8400 was designed as a camera, storing images (and videos) to a memory card. It was not designed to stream videos live to another device.

SOURCE: viviCam 8400 - suddenly lead from camera to

the connectors on the the camera end are very small and are easily damaged, they only go in one way and if your force them you may bend the housing around the connector. look close at the small end (that goes into the camera) and see if it looks bent. if it is you may be able to straighten it with very small needle nose pliers, if its not bent, make sure that you are pushing it in correctly. also make sure you didn't accidently get the wrong cable. i know I have several devices that have cables and all the ends look similar but are not exactly the same size. Last resort, buy a new cable from your local store

Cannot download pic.s from camers to pc.

I would remove the memory card and use that to transfer the media to your pc.... I can't tell you why it is not showing up on any of the pc's. The only thing I can think of is possibly the usb cord is bad or that vivicam has special software you need to download. But you can definately get the media onto to your pc by bypassing the usb cord and remove the media from the card and place it in a folder on your pc .. hope this helps... good luck

I HAVE A VIVICAM 8400 AND HAVE JUST TO CHANGED VISTA AND IT WONT WORK ANY SOLUTIONS

I also have a ViviCam 8400 and am running Windows Vista on my laptop. Windows Vista is more robust than previous versions of Windows. We can certainly tell from the colorful, detailed graphics and it's startup speed. So the key to using this camera on Vista is -- and I learned this through experience :) -- patience. If you have the USB cable that came with the camera, just plug it in and wait, seriously, for about 3 to 5 minutes for the computer to recognize the media and load the photos. Alternatively, and much easier, is to use an SD card while you're taking pictures. The SD card slides into the slot behind the batteries. Take your pictures on the camera, then pop out the card when you're done, then insert the card into the front of your laptop, to the right of the volume slider. If you need help from here, let me know...

Missing USB cable

I don't want to put specific websites on here (not sure that would be fair advertising), but if you Google this phrase "vivitar vivicam 8400 usb data cable", then you'll find several places that sell them. They're about $20 USD
