Question about Projection Televisions

2 Answers

Our TV screen is often blank and our recourse to this point is to give it a slap (or slaps) on the side of it. Sometimes it works and the picture appears, sometimes it doesn't. Seems like some kind of a short that should be able to be corrected inexpensively. Going to a repair shop would cost more than its worth. Might there be a tube or connection that needs tightening? Or should I just trash the entire set?

I'm sorry. I'm at work and don't remember either the brand or model. Once I get home and determine what they are, how, if it's possible, do I get the information to you?

Model and brand would be printed on label, pasted at rear of your TV.

That means that there is a lose contact inside the TV.

If you have blank screen and when you hit the TV and raster comes back, that means that there is a bad solder joint inside your TV.

If this is a CRT tv (the traditional TVs with tube) then the problem is usually a cold solder joint on the flyback trasformer.

Fixing bad soldering on flyback transformer is a job that must be done by a good technician, unless you have experience as a repairer I suggest not attempting the repair.

The flyback transformer stores enough electricity to kill a man, and if badly repaired can cause the TV taking fire, endangering you and your family. This is definitively a delicate job.

If you are using an external receiver , try also checking the video cable.

Mt pt-47wx49e is showing a blurry picture that bounces and waves. ive tried adjusting the convergence on the set but dont have a remote and its tricky to do on the set top controls but i dont think its...

Convergence chip could be lose as in solder joints bad sometimes a good slap on the TV side will straighten this out temporarily but not recommended. A service call is the best fix unless your handy at taking it apart and resoldering the chip you can find convergence kits online if you are the handy type :)

Picture is really light in color screen is white

It sounds like you have bad solder joints in the tv. If you resolder the boards in the tv, it sounds like it will be fine. When you are slapping the tv, it is temproarly making contact again and fixing the picture..

Scattered black lines appear then screen gos black, but still have good volume

Hello 4fiddy,

You have actually diagnosed your own problem, Let me explain; the line "I can slap the left side of the tv and picture will almost always come back on" This indicate some form of poor connection (cold solder joint). If you have a soldering iron, solder (circuit type not pipe type), and a multimeter. Use the soldering iron and solder to redo the cold solder joints , and then test it (the connection) with the multimeter.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Screen projection problems

i think its not necessary to replace the bulb, based on what you have said that the T.V will work when you slap it on the top of the screen. the problem i guess is there is cold solder or loss connection on the CRT board or somewhere in the video or chroma section...
