The following link will take you to where you can download a pdf manual to hopefully solve your problems.

How do I replace the fuser assembly

Took a while to figure this out. I couldn't find a service manual for free online so I just had to sort it out on my own. You basically have to snap the sides of the printer off. First snap the front pieces off that run vertically along each side of the front. Then the whole sides. Then the matching vertical pieces along the back. Sounds easier than it is, but they really do snap off. Look for the places marked by little triangles and pry from those points first.

Once you have those pieces off you need to remove the back cover (there's a few screws). Then you need to remove the black plate running horizontally along the bottom of the back of the fuser. It has a couple pieces and two screws, mostly you just need to massage it off.. Then you need to remove the three gears from the left side of the old fuser (take a photo first), the one closest to the printer back is the longest the most difficult to get back on. It's not keyed, but you must put it on the same way it was before (need photo). Then pull out a couple screws and three wires and the old fuser comes right out.

Then put it all back together in the exact opposite order. Make sure that plate thing with two small posts fits into the two small holes on the front of the new fuser.

Took me over an hour, but 80% of that time was trying to get the plastic pieces off. I think these vague instructions could have cut down my time by half.

Good luck. It's really not that hard.

Print Unable 32, I have replaced all toner, and waste toner pack, cleaned the entire unit, found no jams anywhere, HELP

It's funny that the Brother website tells you it's a paper jam. The service manual says it a "Density Sensor Shutter Malfunction". I have a 4040 too, and one day I got that dreaded error as well.

The fix is not difficult, but you need to be a little handy and not afraid to get into it. It involves taking the back area of the machine apart. A phillips screwdriver is all you really need. Small needle nose may come in handy too.

First find the service manual PDF online. Do a search. It's out there. Don't pay anyone for it, it is freely available for download.

The service manual is exceptionally good (never thought you'd hear that on a Brother product, did you?). Go to page 3-21 and you'll see a flow chart telling you what sections you have to look up to disassemble. Start at "paper tray" (page 8-6) and follow the flow all the way to page 8-16. (So to clarify, you'll be reading steps 8.6,8.10,8.14,8.15 and 8.16 only) There are 5 steps. It looks scary, but it's really not bad at all.

Once you get to the little shutter solenoid, remove the screw so the solenoid can be lifted out. You will see a small piece of black foam on the edge of the solenoid and it probably will be all gummy feeling. That is the problem! WHen that little solenoid activates, the shutter hits the gummy foam and stays there. The spring is does not have enough umpf to return the shutter.

Remove that piece of foam altogether and make sure the surface is not sticky. Now take the solenoid spring and pull it out slightly to give it more pressure. Be careful and don't go nuts. You just want the spring to be a little stronger. Put the solenoid back and move the shutter back and force and make sure it doesn't "hang" in the open position. If it does, give it a little more pull on the spring.

Put her all back together again and your problem will be gone! All from a piece of foam half the size of a thumbnail!

HOW DOES THIS THING GET POWER? I TRIED A USB CABLE AND NOTHING. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANYWHERE FOR ANY ELECTRICITY TO BE PLUGGED IN EITHER.

On the back of the printer you will see a rectangular slot for the power adapter (nicknamed: Brick) to plug into.

If you do not have the adapter, then you must get one. They can be ordered through any Dell authorized service deal or through Dell online.

Here is the link to the Dell website for the owners manual in PDF format.

Paper jam ,no paper jam found Dell 1815dn

give this a try

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

SQUEALING SOUND

Sounds like it stripped the pickup wheel drive gear.
Since it is only 2 months old, I would suggest calling Dell to have then service or replace the unit.
You will need the service tag, and the express service code (they can be found on a little white sticker where you put the toner in).
Contact Dell through the 800 # or they do have a really good online chat service. That device will have at least a one year warranty. I have found at most times, they will simply swap the unit out (I have 8 of these)
