GE Nautilus GSL 3200 dishwasher won't start

6 yr old GE Nautilus GSL 3200 dishwasher won't run when turned the knob to "Start". There is no sound coming from the dishwasher, and dial does NOT tick away. The is some water is on the bottom, and I susspect the cycle has been interrupted. Checked the power and seems ok.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Octavian

The specific model # can be found on inside of tub on wall on plate....also does water fill valve start...do you hear a humming noise...has it been awhile since it was started last...say 2-4 weeks..and if you set the timer to start and walk away does it not move at all...no progression through cycle....also can you manually turn the timer knob to make anything happen...like drain valve clicking open...and motor starting...water fill valve actuated...(can you do any of these by turning the control or timer knob)...also check the float (usually on the right at the front) to see if it is stuck in the up or down position...take it out and look inside to see if it is clean...and free form debris...if not clean it and replace it...see what happens...(I doubt this will repair anything...but it will absolutely inhibit functions...) also how did you check power...you can plug a lamp into the wall outlet where the DW is plugged into to see if power is available.

Thank you for the clarification......The Fang.

SOURCE: GE Nautilus dishwasher wont run

This is a typical GE problem which I have seen many times...When a DW sets for a while not being used...the motor often freezes up....Take the front (lower panel off....find the motor assembly...(with the DW unplugged!!...very important)reach in with you hand or a screw driver...preferably your hand...at the back of the motor...there should be a impeller blade...you should be able to reach in with a finger and pull it down..it may be resistant so find a way to hold it in place as you reach up to the next impller blade and pull down further...finally it will all of a sudden free up....after which you plug it back in and start it up...I am also including a step by step (no drain problem check list as you may run into an issue like this if it has not been operated for a while ....notice article # 5).

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

I hope this helps...it is always useful to include the Model #...more specific instructions can then be provided

Good Luck and good day.....please rate my effort...the Fang

I can't get the control panel to reset. The wash cycle light comes on but it just beeps and the dishwasher won't start. I press the start button and it stops beeping for a minute but it still...

II might need the actual model number. However, you can go to page 9 on this manual and check if the flashing options can fix the problem. I am assuming you have already tried to turn the power off and back on.

The ohter thing to try is the reset sequence. Within 6-7 secs press High Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry. All lights should light up, press Start button to exit.

My dishwasher is not running when you turn the knob it will open and close the detergent

The soap dispenser is openned mechanically by the movement of the knob by the timer. So even when it is unplugged the soap dispenser will open if you turn the knob. Try a different plug. Otherwise check the cord. Next you would check the power supply inside.

GE Nautilius 24" built in about 6 yrs old won't start - it hums and goes through the cycles but doesn't run. Water came in and now won't drain either

Sounds like one of two things 1. The timer unit is gone, that would need replacing. 2. the syphin relay is stuck, this is located below the syphin on the underside of the dishwisher. BE CAREFUL! You will be dealing with electrics.

Hi Lisa in AR

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: Why won't your soap dispense anymore?

Yes, you're correct. This is best looked at by a local pro! You may want to compare the cost of repairing a six year old dishwasher now verses temporarily putting the soap in manually till you can find a good price on a new one. Personally, I loath throwing good money after bad so I go for the latter and we're coming up on the holiday discount season.
