Best way to check and see what your hex key is to connect to your router is to login to the router itself. If you've never done this go to internet explorer type in the adress bar It will prompt for a username and password if you never set one up it is probably admin (user) password (pass). Once in go to advanced wireless settings tab and write down the key.

Hope this helps!

I have just purchased an iPad 2 and it's asking me for my Netgear password; the default password doesn't work, so I must have changed it - but I can't remember what I changed it to!

so then you can simply reset the router so to go back to its default password ...or if you want to know your recent password, simply use your computer that is currently connected to your router and is working...then follow the steps in this link Configuring your Netgear DG834G & DG834GV Wireless Network
Note: you dont need to configure the wireless just check the password you have setup there so you can connect your ipad wirelessly...
Thats it!! (-_-)

Ive a netgear modem dm111p does it have NAT,function my modem only has one ethernet port and i need two to connect my engine voice box

Hi Maureenmcqui,

If you intend to connect more than 2 devices for internet access, given your current situation, it is advisable to get a small 5 port or 8 port switch. Whilst i would ask you to go get a hub, hub's these days have pretty much phased out, so yeah, that would be a better solution.

Alternatively, you may want to look into getting a wireless router (although it might be somewhat of an overkill given your current issue). However, if you dont already own one, the purchasing of a wireless router will provide not only wireless connectivity but also provide a basic of at least 4 lan ports (where you would wanna connect your devices) and have intenet connectivity via your modem.

I hope the above information helped. Please do let me know if there are other queires regarding this. Also, pls remeber to vote for me if you find this solution useful. Thank you.

Do you mean the encryption key?
If so you can reset the Netgear back to the default settings and setup a new encryption key.
To RESET the router, press the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router for approx. 10 secs until the LEDs flash.
For instrustions on how to secure and configure the Netgear wireless router and the wireless card in the computer/laptop please click on this link :-

Netgear locking

I'm assuming we mean wireless security?

Run your internet browser - Internet Explorer or Firefox type the router address in the address field (usually

Default user name of admin and default password of password

Click the Wireless Settings link in the main menu of the DG834GT firewall. There are a number of options available with WEP the most basic. For basic protection select WEP, put in a passphrase (anything you like) and the router will provide you with 4 keys based on your passphrase - take a note of the keys. When you try to connect to the router wirelessly (laptop, game console, etc) the router will require you to input one of these keys to verify your access and that should be it.

For further information to go the netgear website and have a look at the manual -

Connecting to wireless

Here you go, download this wireless key viewer.

Once download, extract the files, open the folder up and click on the key icon.

It will show you the network you are connected to and the Hex Key marked on the image below, now all you need to do is write this down and when the Asus asks for the key put this one in and press connect.

The one in the image is mine and the red circle shows the password....!

Any problems let me know.

Need to know the solution

After a small amount of trouble, I have configured my Win 98 laptop to use
Netgear WG111v2 wireless modem to connect to my wireless router. I used
the driver from the CD that came with the modem, following the instructions and
got to the point, after rebooting a couple of times, where I was connected to the
router, but could not reach another computer on my network (or the outside world).

I double-clicked on the wireless model icon in the system tray and noticed that,
on the NetGear SMART WIZARD panel, the WEP key was set to use the
"Create from passphrase" option, even though I supplied the already generated key (the
hex numbers) during installation of the modem. (The modem was using the key
as a passphrase to create another key.)

To fix this, on the SMART WIZARD panel, I
selected the "Enter key manually" option and, er, entered the hex key (the one
the router/access point uses for security) manually.
I hit "Apply" on the Wizard and, lo and behold, I was pinging the rest of my network.

I rebooted one more time (I had some leftover bad settings in my "Network Connection"
TCP/IP entry for the WG111 connection; I reset them before the reboot
to allow my network to automatically assign an address) and I was then able
to view my favorite site (bythestadium) from my favorite browser (firefox)
