Question about D-Link DI-808HV Router (280006OB)

How to get two DI-808HV routers to talk

I have two 808hv routers. I want to connect to 2 routers (2 computers) to each other so I can monitor the other remotely. How do I do that? Someone started to set it up for me a couple years ago, but I didn't have all the information about one system. I think I have that info now, but I'm not sure.

Where to do I start? I'm very confused.

Please call dlink tech support at 877-453-5465. just an advise on how to handle the call when you reach dlink tech support (agent); do not agree to call back after you troubleshoot with them (they'll be giving you a case id reference# and be advising you to check your pc or call "who" and call them back to continue the troubleshooting). insist to the agent that he need to resolve the problem asap (by the way, agents are not allowed to drop the call or they'll be dead-history!). and if the agent still insisted you to call back, ask for a "senior level technician" to finish the job (escalate the problem).
fyi: dlink tech support handling time to resolve a call is 15 to 18 minutes only. if you reach that 15-18 minutes (max) time the agent will think of a way for you to call back (advising you to check with your pc manufacturer, check with your ISP, call microsoft to update your software, etc... non-sense!) they need to do this in order to reach their handling time (agents need to reach 21 to 25 billable calls, and billable calls are "solution provided", "resolved", and "dropped call"). ---- believe me, i was one of them and repented.

I have three computers networked with a wired d-link router. The router is 4 years old. None of the computers are seeing each other and the network icon in the system tray says the LAN is connected,...

Sometimes the router can freeze.
You can try to restart again the router by unplug power supply and then pluggin it again.
If this is not successful you may try to restore it by the little plug called restore in the back of the router (you can reach it only with a pencil or something similar because is very little). You should plug it for only some seconds otherwise the router will go back to factory settings.

I am running vista and using the dlink di-808hv router. i have set up a pptp connection. when i use ms vpn to connect, it connects but only limited connectivity. can you help?

Peer to peer tunneling protocal is what pptp is if its connecting a limited connectivity that means some of the ports are stull being blocked thus needing for you to use your machine in a demilierized zone so this will open all avilable ports to your VPN software. Also keep in mind not all ISP's will support PPTP so you may have to use a softvpn software. Thanks i hope this helps

I have not been able to use my router for

Try resetting the router . Press the reset button for 10 seconds and after 10 seconds unplug the power cable but continue pressing the reset button for another 30 seconds after 30 seconds plug in back the power cable and continue pressing the reset button for 10 seconds and release it after 10 seconds.

try to open an Internet browser and type in 192.168.0.1 on the address bar. It should give you the DLink page. Once you have that configure your connection.

Factory setting

Step 1 Power the unit off by unplugging its power adapter. Step 2 Insert a paper clip in to the reset pinhole. Press and hold the reset button with light pressure. Step 3 Power the device back on by plugging it in. Continue to hold the reset button. Step 4 Watch the lights on the front of the router. The M1 & M2 should come on solid. When the M1 & M2 begin to blink slowly, release the reset button. The unit will reboot itself and should be at factory defaults. If the M1 light is not blinking about once per second, unplug the power on the router and plug it back in. If the M1 & M2 continue to blink rapidly, you held the reset button for too long. Power the device off and repeat the reset procedure. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1. The default username for our routers is admin. The password is blank. If your router asks only for a password, use admin (lower-case).

UPnP?

This FAQ is for the DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-614+, DI-624, DI-624S, DI-714P+, DI-754, DI-764, DI-774, DI-784, DI-804HV, and DI-808HV. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) allows discovery of UPnP enabled devices in a network environment. UPnP is only available on Windows Me and XP. If you are not using either operating system on any of your computers, or do not want to use UPnP, then it is recommended to disable UPnP on the router. Step 1 Open a web browser and type the IP address of the wireless router in the address bar (default is 192.168.0.1). Press Enter. Step 2 The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click OK. Step 3 Click the Tools tab then click Misc. to the left. Step 4 Under the UPnP Settings section, select Enabled using the radio buttons to enable UPnP on the wireless router, or select Disabled using the radio buttons to disable it. Step 5 Click Apply and then click Continue to save the new settings.
