Question about Kitchen Ranges

Wrong replacement part?

I believe the suggested replacement infinite switch for my Kenmore electric range(7909601) is incorrect. My range has a 3/4'' long D shaped shaft and the recommended part has a square shaft 1-15/16'' long. The Sears recommended part # is 5303935086 for 8'' element on smooth top range.I realize this is a breakaway shaft but will the square shaft fit the D shape knob? I have seen photos online of available switches that appear to be correct but do not match Sears' listed replacement part

The top burner controler for my GE stove Mod. JSP27 0J5AD was replaced in the past. The new controler has a 1/8 inch square shaft but all the other controlers have a 1 inch long D shaped shaft. The old knob does not work on the new controler and I cannot find a new knob that fits the square shaft. The part numbers on the new controler do not come up in any internet search. (INF 240PX 1002 or 5503 512 15A or 0538DM 240 VAC) Does anyone know where to get the right knob?

I would start with P1. The "P" terminal is for the "element on" indicator light on the panel. Start with P1 then turn on that element and check the light for operation. P2 is most likely a loop through. Hope that helps.

check the burner socket, it is likely that contact is being lost where the burner connects to the hardwired portion of the system (the socket). It is not unusual for the socket to "burn up" when there is a poor connection to the burner resulting in the burner being replaced and the new burner not working or working intermittently.

SOURCE: Burner Heating element doesn't heat

Check power to element with a voltmeter. If there is power, the element is bad. If not power, than switch or relay is likely faulty. You can also test them with an ohmmeter

I LOOKED THE PART UP AND GOT 8203538 FOR A PART # SOMETIMES MANUFACTURES CHANGE VENDERS TO MAKE PARTS FOR THEM AND THEY LOOK DIFFERENT. TRY FOLLOWING THE STEPS ON THE NEW SWITCH THE WIRE MARKINGS SHOULD BE LABELED ON THE SWITCH AS WELL,MARK THE WIRES AS YOU TAKE THEM OFF THE OLD SWITCH. LIKE L1 OR H2 ON THE WIRES WITH TAPE INCASE YOU DONT MATCH THEM UP OR LOOSE POSITION. GOOD LUCK!

The element on indicator is typically controlled by the infinite switch (the temperature control) for the element.

Have a Kenmore electric range. A model C880 sold by Sears Canada. One of the "element on" indicator lights stay on even though the elements are not switched on.

This is usually the infinite switch has failed. They are easy to check and inexpensive. Here is a video that will walk you thru testing an infinite switch. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations for your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

GE electric stove problems, our stove has 3 small burners and one big burner. When we use the big burner at medium heat it does fine then all of a sudden it starts glowing bright red and burns whatever is...

Replace the infinite heat control switch for that burner. (the burner switch that you turn with the knob to select the temp setting) If you list a full model number (usually behind the lower drawer panel on the frame of the range) I can look up the part number for you. It is not a very difficult repair.

Kenmore electric stove model c880.6383880 left front burner does not work....it is not the element itself as it heats up on another burner.

hi,

sounds like you have the old-style coil elements on you stove.

your problem is the switch under the element, called the infinite switch. i would suggest to have a technician replace it. they usually charge for the labour but if you have never done it before, it's money well spent.

Kenmore infinite switch will not stop clicking after lighting

A little school lesson. Infinite switches on on electric ranges and cooktops. If you have clicking is it a gas range or cooktop? I have never heard of an infinite switch clicking. If it is gas, have you recently cleaned around the knobs? If not, that paticular spark switch will need to be changed. And if they are not wired individualy, the whole harness will need to be replaced.

Kenmore range

Sounds like you have a faulty switch. The switch is controlled by a tension spring in which, when turned off, the spring disengages the connection. If you want to replace the switch, you will be looking for an "Infinite Switch" for the proper parts name reference.
