Tiny Display of Dell Latitude D500 Laptop Screen

Hey FixYa Support,

I have a Dell Latitude D500 Laptop that won't display more than a few pixels of the screen right at the center of the laptop screen. The display is about 3/5 of the screen size and so all the data is displayed within this box and I am not able to enlarge this box.

This happens right from the BIOS level and I tried it with both Windows 2k and Windows XP and the result is the same.

Would you know if there is a way to fix this so that I can enjoy the full dimensions of my screen?

I would highly appreciate any assistance offered me

Thanks in advance

Hey there, have you tried to adjust the screen resolution by right clicking on the desktop and select the setting tab. set the resolution to 1024 * 768 and set color quality to 32 bits

Dell Latitude D500 won't switch on. Lights come on for about 10 seconds then automatically switch off. Plugged into mains and battery charging light is on.

Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately

My Dell latitude d500 won't recover from standby mode (i.e. after shutting the lid).

The little button on the laptop pushes down when you close the lid and is probably stuck down. Open the laptop and look at the area near the hinges foe a tiny gray pop up button. If it is stuck down you will need to try pulling it up with tweezers. Mine is above the power button on a D800. Here is your manual !

Let me know how you make out!

Good luck Phil

I have a Dell Latitude D500, The problem however, is that a times, the laptop will not turn on (power on), instead it will go into a power-on / power-off cycles. It will stay on for few seconds and then...

please insert the windows boot disk and enter in the bios booting option for cd drive...........
..............most probably you may have to reinstall....

if failed the problem may be with the display settings is better to approach an expert or service center ........display settings options are in bios and an expert can only slove it......

thank you
hope you do it soon.......

My laptop dell latitude d 500 lost the power mode

Right-click on MyComputer>Properties. In the resulting window, click on tab Hardware, then in the Device Manager button. In the Device Manager window Check for the Display Adapter. It may have a yellow question mark. The driver for your Video card is missing. Right-Click on the yellow question mark, and select "Update driver" from the pop-up menu. Follow the instructions on screen. It may be necessary to download the drivers from the Dell website.

You need to go into the control panel and see if this model will support dual display.

Lines and pixels!

the on-board display is going out. The only other thing you can try to fix this is to install new display drivers. I found the driver page from dell here.

If this link does not work type in in your search (Google,Yahoo, ect) and go to the support site and choose your model. The driver you are looking for is the display drivers. on the page i found it lists two of them. You only need the most current one. I.e : 2.05.3 is older than 2.12.4 If you need any further help i will be available, and please don't forget to rate the responses.
