Insert the XP CD into your computer, after it autoruns click explore. go into the i386 folder and find UNATTEND.txt, open and find (you can use alt+f) the line ProductKey. The product key will be in right there.

You have to purchase the product online. Then you will be given the product key to open it and use it. Even if the product is already installed on your computers hard drive, you still have to purchase it to get the product key. The product key is different for each person that buys SP2. Thus, you cannot share product keys to give the software to another person for free.
the product key should be on a sticker on the side of your computer, if not it should be on a sticker on the cd cover. if you have neither of these you will not be able to install it. if you use one from another computer you will get the message that windows failed validation sooner or later and be forced to purchase new license online.

In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under My Computer and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder.
Continue to expand folders until you reach the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents registry key.

When the Windows Product Activation window appears, choose Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows and then click Next.
Click Change Product Key.
Type your new, valid Windows XP product key in the New key text boxes and then click Update.
If you're taken back to the previous screen and prompted, choose Remind me later.
Restart your PC.
