First what version of Windows are you running? If it is XP, use your XP (if you have one) to boot into the recovery console and attempt to fix your installion. A missing OS error can be cause by a bad hard drive and/or missing a boot file.

For this you need to repair your operating system with Windows OS CD. This will restore the missing files.

Computer says boot manager missing

Hello !
This can be caused by a big number of problems.
The easiest fix is to repair the bootloader and master boot records.
If you have a windows 7 DVD (doesn't matter what system you already have) use it and go to "Repair your computer".
Then open up "Command Prompt".
Type the following :
1. "bootrec.exe /fixboot"
2. Press ENTER
3. "bootrec.exe /fixmbr"
4. Press ENTER.
If this doesn't fix your issue, then something has been deleted from the operating system kernel (system32 core files). You can also use your operating system cd/dvd to "repair" this by re-copying the files.
Hope this helps, if you still have any problems, reply with comments. Thanks !
All the best.

My computer is not able to boot, it gives msg as follows File: \ windows\system32\config\system Status: 0xc000014c Info: windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt it...

1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, and then restart the computer.
2.Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted.
3.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
4.Press 1 (One) to select windows XP and then hit enter.
5.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
6.At the command prompt, Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd and then press ENTER.
7.If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully. 8.If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.
Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

1.Restart the computer

Go to dos command when there is a problem in booting

Hopefully you are using Windows XP. For fixing it up you need Windows CD and a CDROM Drive of your computer. Set First Boot Device to CDROM and Boot your computer using windows xp cd. Let the cd load all the drivers and when welcome screen comes. press "R" to enter recovery console.
Here it will search the operating systems located on your disk and a list will appear. Choose the Correct Location and enter administrator password. Copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from I386 Folder on the CD to C:\(assuming C:\ is your BOOT Drive). It will ask you to overwrite, say "y". Run "chkdsk /p" to verify drive integrity. To verify boot.ini config type "Bootcfg /list" on the prompt. After Completing this type exit. Your System will reboot.

Winxp cannot boot - missing files message

Just make sure you get these files on your computer.
Download hal.dll from here:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?hal

Place it in windows\system32 folder.

Now go to the drive you have windows installed in (C:/ for example), and then create a new file, name it boot.ini.

Open boot.ini with notepad, and enter this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS /usepmtimer
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Save boot.ini now, and try booting your computer, it should work.
