You are absolutely correct! When you change the partitions size it can affect the recovery partition or if you switch out the hard drive it will also affect your recovery partition. When the recovery partition is considered nonusable the computer will respond exactly as you've stated.

Since your recovery partition is unavailable now you'll need to order recovery CD's from the manufacturer. Call IBM Toll free @ :1-800-426-7378 and ask them to transfer you to someone who can sell you recovery disks. Unfortunately almost every company charges for them and they run about 30 - 40 dollars.

Hope this helps!

How do i get the activation key?

If you computer is still working, you can download Belarc Advisor. It is a free program. After you install and run it, you will have alot of info about your pc. You will also see the install key in the list. If it is not working and you plan on re-installing the operating system, Make sure you are installing the same version you were using. As long as you are using win 7 and above, you should not need the key since the key is embedded into the motherboard. But, it is better to have the key if possible. As shawn earle stated, see if there is a recovery partition on the hard drive. If you have any problems, contact me and i can walk you through recovery.

I am looking for restore software?

There may be a hidden recovery partition on your hard drive. Reboot the PC and hit F10 several times right after it reboots, but before it begins Windows. If F10 doesn't work, try other F keys. The recovery partition allows you to restore the PC to its original factory state. Just be sure you back up all your data to an external hard drive or flash memory card before you do that.

There are ways to recover files from formatted hard drives but to recover the entire recovery partition is not likely.

Please contact Lenovo here to order recovery discs

How can I do a complete system restore without a disk? Take my computer back to how it was when we first purchased.

If your system is a HP Pavilion then at startup or boot you can press F8 or F10 Im not sure about the exact keys, but hp stores a recovery of the OS on a partition which is usually hidden and does not have access from within the OS.
So try using function key that works for your system, the recovery will start automatically.
but remember this deletes all the data on the primary partition ie the OS partition.

If this thing does not work check if there is a recovery partition that needs to be burnt on the CD/DVD.

Else you need a OS disc and format the PC and reinstall the OS

One key problem

If i were you i would go get a new key board. And you cant change the partitions of a hard drive around. Once they are there, you can delete them or add more but never move them around. Get a new key board. Good luck.

Looks like you've tried a lot. Try this stuff.

1) Try F11 instead.
2) Dunno. Corruption?
3) chkdsk /f
4) Microsoft EULAs are much less crackable than their software, according to BitTorrent.
