Question about Kenmore Washing Machines
When we fill the washer with cloths and turn it on, it fills with water but then doesn't start the wash cycle
There are a couple of things that might cause this. One is the water level switch. The other is the lid switch.
On most washers, the lid switch only keeps the basket from spinning if you have the lid open, but on others the machine won't agitate either. So if the machine thinks the lid is up, it will just sit there.
While the machine is filling, the timer stops and waits for the level switch. If the switch isn't working properly, once the machine is full of water the timer doesn't start again. And the machine just sits there.
I would try the lid switch first as it's more likely to be the trouble. Here's a website with some good information on how to get at the parts and how to check them:
These repairs are pretty simple if you're comfortable with a screwdriver and have a little mechanical ability. You can save a good bit of money over a service call if you try the repair yourself.
Good luck, and thanks for asking here. If this solution has given you what you needed, please take a moment to rate it.
