hi

try going to

start
programes
avg then click on it and see if that does the trick

if you are running windows 7 have a look down on the right hand side of the task bar
there should be a little up pointing arrow
click on it

go to customize
then go into the box find avg and tell it to show icons and noticications then make sure you click
ok at the bottom of the box before you close it

hope this has helped you

Hello,

You can try to disable the startup programs which automatically start with windows and then monitor the system.

To disable startup programs:

Click Windows icon

Type msconfig in the Search bar and press Enter

Click Startup tab
Click Disable All
Click Services tab
Click on the checkbox Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable All
Click Apply and Close

Restart the computer. See if the problem occurs with the startup programs disabled.

AVG is an Antivirus product. If you do not have any antivirus protection (such as AVG or Norton), you need some. You can go to Start, Programs, Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs to see if it is listed. If it is listed you have it. If it is not, you can download it here.

There is a free version of AVG antivirus. It is a good product. After one year, it tries to make you purchase the upgrade. You can uninstall it and reinstall the free version. Sometimes there are traces left when you uninstall it, and you have to use a "cleaning" tool. Then you can re-install the free. Or purchase the upgrade.

Hi:
This is a common problem on the AVG site. When this happens, either try to download the program from the link that directly downloads from the AVG site, or go to the CNET site and download it there. If that fails, DOWN load and save the AVG program, go off line, and install it that way. Usually one of these work arounds will get you the free AVG

Sorry to here about your problems with AVG, generally Griftsoft (AVG) is a grate program, that is until recently.
I have run AVG for years, until they get bossy and BUSH you to Buy their Program. At which time, I decided to remove them and go elsewhere! But that's me, and others have their own opium.
1st. What operating system are you using.? XP or VISTA
2nd. Have you tried to un-install AVG ?
3rd. If the program is running, on the bottom right of screen, you should see the colored box (red. blue, green and yellow) Right click on it and delete.
4th. Next go to control panel and add or remove programs
5th. Find AVG anti-virus and remove.
6th. If you are running VISTA you may want to find your start-up folder and remove from that.
If all the above fails, drop me a email and I will explain removal using MSCONFIG.

I need a good internet security program that ISN'T Norton

Wow, this is a big answer. There are many free virus protection programs but I've compiled a list of free, great quality, and awesome protection anti-virus programs for your solution.

Free Anti-Virus:
  • Windows Defender
  • Ad-Aware
  • PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition
  • AVG Anti-Virus Free
  • Avira AntiVir Personal - Free AntiVirus

In addition to the collection of anti-virus programs I would recommend some cleaning and analyst programs to speed up your computer.

Cleaning & Analyst Utilities:
  • CCleaner
  • Defraggler
  • Recuva
  • Speccy
I'm sure you'll be happy with these programs. Have fun and always use protection!

Thanks,
Brandonmxb

Avg 8 removal problem....

This could be because you did not follow a proper procedure for an anti-virus removal. Nevermind, follow these instruction:
  1. Download CleanUp utility from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.
  2. Install it and run it
  3. Scroll down and select AVG products and remove them one after the other (if there are more than one)
  4. Restart the computer and install your new anti-virus program
Kindly get back if need any further help

Cannot uninstall avg 8 completely

I have had AVG for a long time and it beats any antivirus i have ever had. but if you really want to remove it, use the add/remove programs, or go to the star menu, programs, AVG folder and select the UN-installer. once removed, then try again to install the new one. Make sure to select ( remove Virus Vault ) in the option when un-installing AVG.

If your still getting issues, go into C: and delete any remaing AVG system folders that may be left behind.

Good luck
