my phillips 42" 42pfl5332D/77 won't turn on. Blue power light comes on in the left hand corner, then will go out after 10 seconds. It will come on if it sits overnight and cools, but if I turn it off and back on... only the blue light in the left corner, then then the light goes off.

This is my second post. The paid "expert" responded with "it and internal problem, get repaired"... no help.

Is the a power supply issue?

  • mrcooper384 Mar 05, 2009

If it was a fuse, won't it not come on after it sits for awhile?

    What is the back light?

I'm leaning torwards replacing the power supply... any thoughts?

  • mrcooper384 Mar 05, 2009

Any additional ideas? Any Philip experts that know of this issue?

It sounds like you have a bad power supply. Does the blue light blink a certain amount of time or does it just constantly blink? Does the tv make any noise when you try to turn it on?

Hi mrcooper384,
There is a possibility that this is a power supply problem but it is most likely a malfunction of the backlight inverter.
In order to complete a proper diagnosis the tv would have to be taken apart and voltage readings taken from the power supply.
Im sure this is not the answer you are looking for but there is no easy fix for this problem.
If you have experience with electronics repair I would suggest you buy a service manual and start troubleshooting from the power supply.

The fact is that if the blue light turns on and off, that means that the TV is on protection.

Protection mode is a special safety mode that kicks in whenever a faulty component inside the tv has been detected.

When on protection the TV will stay in standby, as the protection crcuit prevents it from starting.

You can unplug the TV for a couple of hours , this will reset protection circuit if there is no fault.

If instead you still have the blinking light on startup that means that something inside your TV has blown.

If you are a repairer, you start testing from the power board inside your tv, looking for leaking capacitors, and testing PWB.

If you find nothing in there proceed testing the LCD digital control board, and the inverter board.

Television is probably malfunctioning due to electrostatic discharge. Try resetting the television by unplugging it from the power outlet for 10 seconds.

    1. Make sure that the power cable on the display and the VGA cable with trailing audio cables are connected correctly (use the originally supplied VGA cable.) between 'MONITOR' of the TV and 'VGA1' of the display.

    2. Make sure that the display is switched on.

Tv will not come on. Red light blinking on bottom left front. Red light blinks 7 times

I have the model Philips 37PF7320A/37 won't turn on and MOST articles on the Internet say it's the Capacitors capictors capictors..I checked all of them. My tv just blinked red lights, had the clicking sound at first power on, but then goes black. No sound. No picture. Nothing. Just blinking red lights.

MINE WAS RESISTOR no. 3318 , a 100 OHM RESISTOR ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD.

I BOUGHT REPLACEMENT FOR .99 CENTS SOLDER IT, AND EVERYTHING WORKED!!!

THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK.

JUST A SUGGESTION..
1. CHECK FOR BULGING CAPACITORS (90 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM)
2. THEN CHECK FOR RESISTORS WITH MULTIMETER ( FALLS INTO THE OTHER 10 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM.)

TELL ME IF THAT HELPS..normanw1@yahoo.comj

Philips 42PF9956/37 Plasma TV - Looking for y sustain board

it isnt the Y-SUS board, it is the Power supply, iv fixed this exact problem twice in the last month, try turning the tv on, and when it turns green, unplug it real fast, while light is still green, after 15 seconds plug it back in, then hit the power button, if it dont come on, hit the power button again, this time, as soon as it turns off, hit the power button again to turn back on, sometimes you can trick the tv and it will turn on, at least i was able to do it, and once it comes on, it should work fine, untill you turn it off again.

Philips 42PF7320A blinks 3 times every time i hit the power button

The SSB is small self contained board that u connect your Antenna, and HDMI to. An error three is a communication error between the SSB and to Logic board ( located underneath the SSB on the back fo the plasma panel that is just below the power supply. U can check parts.com and see if u want to purchase a SSB for this TV. Is the 3blinking lights coming from the front of the TV. Also check the power supply and see how many times the green led blinks on the upper left of the power supply and let me know.
