Question about HP LaserJet 5200tn Printer

1 Answer

HP LaserJet 5200tn printer that doesn't print dark enough.

Our IT person has checked all of the settings and believes he has them set for the darkest copy. I replaced the toner cartridge that wasn't empty. None of this has helped. I have had the printer for two years and this issue began about 6 months ago. Thanks for any assistance.

Have you turned off economode in the properties on the computer?

    From the manual:

EconoMode creates draft-quality printing by reducing the amount of toner on the printed page by
up to 50%. Advise the customer to turn EconoMode on or off from the printer driver or software
application, because those settings override the control panel settings. EconoMode settings can
also be changed from the print-quality menu on the control panel.

If that's okay, then these are the other possible causes:
Transfer roller is defective or incorrectly installed. If the
transfer roller loses conductivity, it cannot effectively pull toner from
the drum to the paper.Transfer roller is defective or incorrectly installed. If the transfer roller loses conductivity, it cannot
effectively pull toner from the drum to the paper.

Action 5

Inspect the transfer roller for correct installation and contact. If the transfer roller is damaged, replace it.

High-voltage connector springs are dirty or defective.

Action 6

The high-voltage connectors are mounted on and above the dc controller and protrude into the toner cartridge cavity. Check the springs for functionality. Clean if dirty, replace if defective or missing.

Laser/scanner door is not opening correctly.

Action 7

1. Remove and reseat the toner cartridge.

2. Check the laser/scanner shutter door for proper operation. If it is defective, replace the laser/scanner assembly.

The dc controller is defective. The dc controller contains the high-voltage circuitry.

Action 8

Replace the dc controller.

I have a SRP350 thermal printer that prints faint, is there a setting that makes it print dark? Thank you

The printer has some dipswitches under the panel on the bottom of the printer. Dipswitch 2-5 needs to be OFF and dipswitch 2-6 needs to be ON for darkest print. Default is medium. This printer is 180dpi so recommend using double size characters for darkest printing.

HP LaserJet M5025 MFP scans too light. Under default job options, image adjustment, darkness set to 3. The printer was sent to us upside down. We recently installed a brand new cartridge. Any suggestions?

If you print the configuration pages from the administration>information menu and they look dark then you know that the printing system is working fine. If they are light as well, then it is possible that being shipped upside down resulted in some dirt getting into the laser scanner. The image original settings are kind of wonky, in that it is backwards to normal assumptions. Darkness refers to the actual orignal you are scanning, so in most cases if you have lighter origjnals then you need to set darkness lower. As well, check whether the image type is set for photo or text. Setting for text will result in darker scans.

HP Laserjet 3055 All-in-one. Printing and copying too light despite brand new HP toner cartridge. On the computer, "Print Quality - print density set to highest number (5) for darkest. Also tried...

New cartridge means that the transfer corona is probably going out (or the controller board is sending wrong voltage) because it charges the paper to pull the toner off of the EP drum. This might be replaceable but you have to check with HP about buying one. I did not find them for sale on line but some models have them for about $25.

While printing there is a noise

Maybe go to a local store and try a display model of the same printer and see if it makes identical sound. If it doesn't make the same, contact whoever you bought from to see about warranty or refund. Can also contact HP customer service for advice.

Hp laserjet 5200tn no display

Is it in sleep mode, or is this some other issue? Scroll down to the resets submenu in this article .
In fact, you might try simply resetting the printer, to try and clear the memory, but if you choose to do so, make sure you have printed a configuration page beforehand so you have all the info needed to set it up again.
Or you could try an online diagnostic session with HP, available here.
Finally, your model home support page with other troubleshooting options here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Dark printout

Have you tried a different toner cart? Common problem with reman carts. If that fails again, check the silver spring loaded contacts inside on the left and right that contacts the toner cart. Make sure they are not stuck inside the frame and that they are springy.

HP LaserJet 3030, light print with original brand new cartridge, even with the print darkness set to 5 (darkest). Thank you for any tips!

Forget buying a new toner cartridge and don't bother re-installing anything - This is a power supply problem - The electrolytic capacitors fade away after a few years of power on and the high voltage to the printing engine drops too low.I tried a new toner cartridge - no help - re-installed drivers - no help.If you can handle a soldering iron or know a friend who can, replace the following capacitors on the power supply board on the LHS (power cord side). Make sure you use low impedance 105 degree power supply types. Warning - high voltage !!! power cord out and wait 30 minutes before touching anything.
C374 341 503 529 (47uF/35V), C526 (1uf/50V), C506 (0.47uF/35V), C515 (100uf/50V). All the others tested fine in mine. Also make sure you install them the correct way around!
Now I have "black as black can be" prints just like new and I set print density back to 2 not 5 to save toner.
enjoy ;-) - Ray P
