Hey Karikalan! Make sure you don't run your computer without the fan on! This can cause permanant damage to the CPU as well as other components.

Sounds like you need a new CPU fan for your laptop. These usually range in price around $60 - $130. They can be installed by a computer expert, or if you want you can try it youself. Be careful though Processors and internal components are very sensitive! To install it youself you'll have to remove the bottom part of the computer's casing. Once that's finished you should see a part that looks like a mix of plastic / metal with a fan about 1" big in the middle of it. This is the component you'll want to replace. A new fan can be obtained from IBM or you can order an equivalent on Ebay. Usually they are cheaper this way.

Hope this helps!

Laptop not used for some years. could enter bios OK to reset Replaced U/S CMOS battery with no problem. Restarted............ Message press F1 ibm bios setup press F11 to invoke IBM product recovery...

I received an IBM laptop with same issue a few months back. The error message due to the drained out CMOS RTC (coin-cell battery), which retains and other BIOS settings.
The system is OK and all you have to do is to get the CMOS/RTC battery replaced by the a professional.
Good Luck!

Fan Error

You may have a faulty fan, check to fan, it should spin freely, if not the fan needs to be replaced. The fan and heatsink assenble may also be clogged with dust, remove the dust and vacuum to clean.

Disable boot up password in R51

You could open up the R51 and remove the CMOS battery. This would reset the password.

Here is a link I found that allows one to hack the BIOS password:

Or try this fixya thread:

T23 fan error

This is a commin IBM issue fans going Bad ... to try and free it if it's just dust you can actually blow into the vent with compressed air and free up the Fan ... The IBM T series all check fan before powering up.
The replacement is not too difficult to do.
The safest air is the can type to blow in there.

Good Luck

Re: t40 ibm fan error

Are you talking about the original fan being good or the replacement? If it's the original, then your problem may lie with the processor or mainboard. Try the download first, you will need to access another computer to make a bootable disc for the download to clear it. I believe with IBM you can make a bootable floppy or CD. If you have a floppy for your machine, some don't. Once you've made the disc or floppy, you will need to enter the boot menu, and boot from the proper drive. I'm out for the night, but I'll be back in the morning. Let me know.

Problem out of the blue

Hi,
This is an operating system fault. Some of your Windows files are deleted Or Corrupt. I,d suggest re-install your operating system. or alternatively performing a system restore, if you have a restore or boot CD.

My ibm thinkpad booting and hanging fault

Try this... to see if your video card is bad...
Connect your laptop to an external monitor and press the Function key plus F5 on the laptop... if your OS shows up on the monitor screen, then you have a bad video card...

If its not the video, Bad Ram might be the cause.
And worst case.. Need Motherboard replaced...
