Question about Phones

6 Answers

I installed a Panasonic T170 expansion board on a KX-TD1232. I mounted it at the bottom of the door. It does not work. I have not programmed anything yet or turned off/on the power. The manual states that the system default is C, E1, E2 for poistion 1,2and 3. Should I relocate this unit to position 2? I need help troubleshooting this problem and to program this system to accept this board if needed. The purpose of this install is to add 2 telephones. Will the telephones work as the other 16 phones currently in use? All the existing phones are set at default system settings.

I've already tested from amphenol. I need help configuring the system and confirming card position.

  • info167 Mar 05, 2009

When position 1 did not work I replocated to position 3. This position did not work either.

Is the system deafult actually C, E1 and E2, or do I need to program 109? Should I relocate to positon 2 which should be E1

This D1232 system has (2)50pin amphenol connectors for station interface. 8-ports on the top and 8-more on the bottom amphenol. The expansion board also utilizes an amphenol connector.

Just like the lines and amps, Panasonic starts from the bottom and works to the top. Keep the card in the bottom position and go to 109 and alter the display so that E1 appears in the setting, then save it, exit programming, and power the system down and back up.

Yes, the new extensions become 117-124 by the E1 probramming.

Try first changing position to 2 or 3, try also unplugging all cables for five minutes to reset the system before switching to position 2.

I do not know if you can read my post, but follow instructions on the link below, I quote:

"There are two things you will inevitably come across when working with
Panasonic phone systems: Krone blocks and DDK connectors. DDKs are used
on every telecom-based port of your system as well as the door phone /
door strike terminals. Panasonic use both 4- and 6-pin DDKs, 4-pin for
COs, cell sites etc; and 6-pin for the extensions. If you open the
front panel of your KX-TD1232 you will see a row of DDKs running from
top to bottom, grouped in four blocks of four. These are your extension
ports, port 01 being at the very bottom, port 16 at the top.
Each connector is capable of carrying three pairs of wires. In
telecomms, everything is referred to in pairs otherwise it starts
getting rather confusing. Of these three pairs, two are actually used -
one for analogue, one for digital. When wiring the system, the first
thing I did was to take 8 lengths of CAT5 solid-core network cable and
attach two pairs to each DDK. As CAT5 has four pairs, I run two DDK's
worth down each span of CAT5, hence eight lengths.

And the reason for using CAT5? I had plenty knocking around
:-) Telephone cable is actually quite similar, but CAT5 has a slightly
different twist applied to the conductors. For telecom systems, it
    makes very little difference.

How to reset or know Panasonic KX-TD1232 Admin Password without loosing existing settings and programming.

On the D1232 box open the main door and there is a switch front lower right (normal - clear)... switch to clear and go to the main or number one phone and hit program *# ******* (7 stars should do it)
once your logged in hit 107 and then next to view current password
once you have the password you can switch it back to normal and log in with that password by hitting Program *# (password)

I have a Kx-TD1232 pbx and would like to activate the 2nd music on hold feature. any ideas of how to handle that?

This should be an audo response...the one with the big horse laugh :-)

Panasonic TD's have 4 music sources, BUT there is no tenant service. You can play SOURCE 1 to trunks and SOURCE 2 to BGM and external page, but you can't play Source 1 to trunks 1-3 and Source 2 to trunks 4-6. A TD has no tenant service. That was addressed in the TDA system.

System programs 803 and 990 control how the music is played and where. There is external equipment that can split music to different trunk groups. It's expensive so the upgrade from a TD to a TDA might be a better option.

No dial tone kx174

That's a trick. Pull out the card on the bottom of the cabinet and see if you get dial tone from the cards in the middle and top positions.

I think A1 and A2 mean extension cards of which you can derive 32 extensions, and the 16 analog ports on the base cabinet. I could tell you about the TDA-100 or 200, so I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for the 174's.

Is tha possible to get 25 single lines on 16SLC card(50 pin)

The 25-pair Amphenol connector is just something the industry uses because it's standard and easy. In a TDA system, the 8-port C.O. Trunk card uses the first 8 pairs, a 16-port the first 16 pairs, an 8-port Pana station card uses the first 24 pairs, 3 pairs per extension. The last pars don't have any hardware behind it and are connected to nothing.

The only phone system that I remember where all 25 pairs are used is a 1a2 10 button set and, maybe a Comdial system where the 25th pair is the common audible for station 17 :-)

Extention Display Name

This detailed instruction is not in the small book that came with the phone. It will be found in the binder or full sized publication titled “User Manuel’ for the models KX-TD816 and KX-TD1232 that came with the phone system.
You will want to use the overlay that DID come in the smaller book. You will place it on top of the buttons and it will provide programming commands listed in the instructions.

Page 71 has the “Getting into programming” details.

[Program], **, 1234

Now you are in user programming mode.

Page 87 will instruct you how to program names.

Press 004, [Next], [jack number] (ext 101 = jack #01-1, ext 102 = jack #02-1 ect…)
Once the jack and the old name are displayed, press [Clear] and then start pressing the letters according to the “Overlay”. (3 = 3 D E F) press the S-button that displays the correct character. S-buttons are the 3 buttons directly below the display. When you are done press [Store] and you can press [Next] to se more jacks or just exit by pressing [Program].
