Question about Furuno 1623 Radar 16nm Range

Open Question

No alarm sound when it should, furuno 1623

We just made it to st-Maarten, almost 5 days on the sea, so I had the oportunity to test my furuno rader 1623 again, after being 6 months on anchor in Porlamar, Venezuela. From the beginning I had my rader I noticed that sometimes it acts "strange" this was not different on this trip, after a day on the sea, I was almost sure that the alarm did not work, because I never heard it in one day, when I got clearly a big vessel in the alarmzone my doubts where confirmed, after trying different things like clear memory, switch to simulate and back, power off, alarm off and on, I got the alarm working again, but it took a while.
My experience is this, when you put the rings from the alarm zone, I normally put them from one mile to six miles, the rader looks in the zone to decide "in" or "Out" I noticed that often "almost always" he will say "in" altouch there is something in the zone. the alarm will never sound when something comes in the zone, because somewhere in his memory there is this conflict, He says "in" but thinks "out" It is only after I got him to say "out" en then a clear screen, putting the gain down to zero, en then install the alarm zone, then he wil say "in" and then everything is working normal, the alarm sounds when there is something in the zone.
So the problem is how to let him say "out" I have experienced this, when I put a vessel on the ring of the alarm zone, then you have a good change that he says "out" only between the rings then probably you get a "in" but once you get a "out" then turn off the alarm, set again a zone and give a clear "in" By putting the gain down, then the radar works normal, .....except that in 5 days I had 4 times that he will not give any signal on the screen after he comes from the watchman function, the only way I get a signal back is by turning the power off and back on. 4 times in 5 days is not much, but it is 4 times to much.
For me there is something with the programming inside, but who am I to decide this, so I give it to you the specialists
I have send you a email with this problem some 6 months ago, had only an answer that you wood look into it, never got reply back, meanwhile I have this radar 1,5 years so I was wandering about my warranty, can you help me with this.
I was with the dealer In Trinidad (where I bought this radar) last year in august to make a complain but he was not in his shop, so I talked to his helper, but he could not advise me, I stayed only 4 days and never met the dealer.

SOURCE: Furuno Radar 1623 and 1715

Hello.

According to the operating manuals of the two radars (found on Furuno's Website (www.furunousa.com), they do use the same antenna cable.

Hope this was helpful.

Ca I buy a 5 metre extension cable as the 10 metre cable that came with the 1623 is too short?

Quite sorry but Furuno does not carry "extension" cables for radar antenna signal cables. If the original cable is too short, you would need to obtain a 15M whole cable, furuno part number 001-122-870-10. Or the 20M whole cable part number 000-144-565. You might be able to find a technician willing to custom manufacture an extension for you but I emphasize the word might.
Regards,
John

No heading pulse

Open the dome cover and check the belt that spins the array. Sometimes the gear on the motor that holds the belt comes loose and will not spin the array. I have seen this on 4 radars and all were about the same age. The gear has a small allen head set screw. Move the gear down and tighten the screw down. If you are still having issues there are some more troubleshooting techniques you can do, but you will need a multimeter to test voltages coming from the display.

IS THERE A EXTERNAL ANTENNA AVALIBLE . IF SO WHAT MODLES CAN I USE THANKS MODLE 1623 FURUNO .

I would assume you're talking about the radar? it's a RSB0093-074 it's just for the 1623. There are no other options. If you're referring to gps antennas then any antenna that outputs nmea can be used.

Hi, Furuno 1731 radar - no sweep/echo seen on screen. Scanner is rotating and other display is normal.

Go to longest range and full Gain min Rain and Sea Clutter
Do you have speckle? Yes = Receive OK, Wiring OK,No transmit (magnetron or modulator) No = Most likely a broken wire
There is a very tiny coax (shielded wire) that is know to lose its' center conductor, which is very delicate
