How To Extend Your Laptop's Battery Life

Hi... This is Vikas Sharma From M/s Computer Solutions, Patiala - Punjab, India

Im Going to give you one good advice that if you want to make your laptops battery life batter and want that your battery should run and give proper backup then use the battery as much as possible and when laptop shown the message that battry low or less than 5% then charge it back full. do it atleast once in a week.

Acctually the purpose is that when you charge and discharge the battery full all the cells used and charged and discharged. when you charge your battery when it is having i.e. 40% or 30% etc. charging to full and then you use the battery upto i.e. 40% and again you charge it then the remaining 40% cells are not charged and discharged then they become useless and again and again this process dead the cells that are not in charging and discharging position. This is the one big reason for battery problem.

so I suggest that charge and discharge the battery for better results.

Thanks Take Care

Hi.. my acer battery shows charging upto 72%, as shown on the screen when I take the pointer over it... beyond that it won't charge

It looks like your battery has bought the farm.

Batteries have a finite life, shortened if you've use your laptop while mainly plugged into the mains.
If the batteries are not charged and discharged on a regular basis, their life becomes much shortened.

Certainly if you laptop is over 2 - 3 years old, you're looking for a new battery.

Can any one please tell about how to increase battery backup, its very less upto 1 1/2 hrs.

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

My aspire 5740 showes 81% available but not charging, checked all power lines etc on balanced power. Bought laptop 3 weeks ago till today it charged up

Hi

Dont be panic. Your laptop has absolutely no problem.Your manufacturer had set a 80-20 policy for the laptop battery charging such that the battery wont be charged to 100 percent but it will charged only upto 80 percent. The makers of the lap are doing this because to give good life to the battery. You can change it by going into the power options inside control panel.

Battery only charges upto 7%

Chances are the battery itself has been damaged. These batteries have several cells linked together, and if any of the cells fail then capacity drops accordingly. You may want to look to replacing the battery.

My headset does not hold its charge

Usually Lithium-Ion batteries have a Memory effect, ie. the battery should be 100% consumed then only recharged. If the battery is only 40% used and recharged then the battery will give you only 40% of it's total charge. The battery starts showing you empty after it is 40% consumed even it was 100% charged. Now there is solution for this-Drain battery upto full, store it in a cool place like Frigde then charge it full then again use it upto last. Repeat this procedure for 2-3 times.Your battery should come to normal state. Also check the charging current of the charger. The charger might also be faulty.
