Question about Parasound HCA-1000A 2-Channel Amplifier

Parasound HCA-3500 temp alarm

I bought a used Parasound HCA-3500 and have had an intermitent problem since the first day. the "TEMP" alarm will come on almost immediately for the right channel which shuts that channel down. This does not always occurr and sometimes I can just turn the power button off and then back on and it is fine with the alarm never coming back for that listening period. Any solutions?

Thanks,

Mike

You may want to get an Ohm meter and check between the outputs of the amp yourself. 0 ohms means a short somewhere.
You should also check to se when you're hooking the speaker wires in that they're not frayed and touching hot to ground or hot to the amp casing. hope that helps!

SOURCE: how to fix 2 fuses on the left of the amp? the right side work well.

Fuses only blow if there is an overload somewhere. The most likely cause being a transitor that has shorted out. Easy to spot with a multi-meter on the ohms setting. As it will be liked you have touched the test leads together!

Amplifier wont turn on. the orange ac light is on but nothing else

Check internal AC fuse. If intact, amplifier may be in protect mode due to fault.

I have an overload indicator on channel 2. I opened the lid and swapped the channel 2 module with the channel 5 module and the overload light followed the card and showed up on channel 5. Parasound said...

I believe that the output transistors may be bad. Without seeing the actual card, there is no way to tell. If the parts are under warranty, request a replacement board. If I remember correctly, the board is the field replaceable unit (smallest orderable part) anyway. If not, you will need instruction from Parasound about what to do next.

Smell like a electrical smell ocassionaly coming

Its probably getting hot so you might smell the components heating up. I would try to if possible clear up some space and try cleaning the unit with a air can. Try to get dust that builds up over time

Noisy transformer

Normally, power transformers don't hum loudly unless there is a problem in power supply circuit. If all seems normally operational, the problem may be simply anchor screws that hold transformer to frame may be loose. Try tightening them
