Computer powers up, fan starts up. Charge light and power light is on but display is absolutely black

  • Anonymous Mar 19, 2009

I tried that, it made a "pewww' noise, then I tried again, and it still was black... how am I supposed to update something when i can't see the screen?!?!

  • Anonymous Mar 20, 2009

I have the same problem myself aswell. If the system itself doesn't turn on how can we update the BIOS?
I have reseated every removable part on the laptop which doesn't viod the warranty. Tried power cycles and am fed up now.
I think this problem has become a common one now. all of us has the same same problem during the same time frame or 3 or 4 days.
could it not be that acer has done something to block the usage of certain products after a certain period of time?

Foollow the steps below to resolve the problem. Worked for me. It should work for you as well.

Product

Aspire One 8.9
Issue
No Display / System will not POST Aspire One AOA. Download
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/AS1_BIOS_3309.zip
Solution
Create a recovery USB drive to update the Bios on the unit. The specific steps to perform this recovery with the USB drive are:

  1. Download & Extract AS1_BIOS_3309.zip
  2. Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd.
  3. Copy zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive.
  4. Start the restoration process:

    A. Plug the AC Adapter into the unit.
    B. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
    C. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together.
    D. Keep these keys held down and press power.
    E. When the unit's power light comes on release the Fn and Esc keys.
    F. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
    G. Let the unit run and after approximately 1-7 minutes, the unit should reboot.
    H. Video should now be restored.

The link to the AS1_BIOS_3309.zip included above no longer works. The file can now be downloaded from here:

SOURCE: ACER ASPIRE 5100-5674. BLACK SCREEN

I have an ACER Aspire. Try the battery. Had same type of problem. If you have AC adapter try taking the battery out and plug into adapter only. If it comes up replace the battery. If notyou probably did fry the board.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire One Netbook 8.9' Won't Boot Up !!!

The Acer Aspire One has a built-in BIOS recovery routine, which can boot into a minimal BIOS environment via a special boot block to re-flash the BIOS, even if the system does not pass POST and does otherwise not boot anymore. This is also known as crisis disk mode.

First format an USB flash drive with FAT. It does not need to be bootable.

Download the latest BIOS, and extract all files from the zip file. Put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file with FD suffix in the root directory of the flash drive. The files must not be in a folder. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD before proceeding. It only works with this exact filename.

Turn the AA1 off, with the flash drive still connected, and make sure both battery and AC adapter are also connected.

Press Fn and Esc simultaneously, keep them pressed and press the power button. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds. The power button starts blinking at this point. Press the power button once. The AA1 will now initiate flashing the BIOS. After a while the button stops blinking, and the AA1 reboots shortly after. Wait patiently.

If it doesn't reboot by itself, but keeps blinking, wait at least a few minutes before turning it off, and try again.

Hi, when I turn on the Acer Aspire 5920, the acer screen comes on, the bar across the bottom moves, then it goes to a blank dark screen with a blinking cursor. I have tried turning off and turning on and...

Check if your hard rive indicator light is flashing (has disc shape icon or can shape icon next to it). If it is then put in your windows disc and do a startup repair. Make sure it is booting from the disc drive first. if it isnt flashing then you may have a dead hard drive. Try taking the hard drive out and putting it back in.

Booting

Press the FN F5 screen to see if you can toggle the screen on. If you have a external monitor plug it in to the notebook and see if you have video. If it show in the external monitor your LCD screen has gone out.

I hope this helps.

Laptop Wont Boot

Does it sound like it's starting up at all? Is the problem that only the screen turns blank? You might have just disabled the standard output. Try pressing Fn (bottom left on the keyboard) and the F5 on the top a few times to see if the screen toggles back on. You might also try to run it without the battery, and on the battery only in case it's a faulty battery or power supply that causes the problem. If not, it sounds lsike a serious problem, so if there is any chance of the waranty still being valid I'd call acer support asap.
