Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S2386 Notebook
I own a Toshiba Satellite laptop (A200 -AH3) running Windows Vista Home Premium. For what it is worth, the processor is a T2085 @ 1.73 GHz. It is a 32-bit Operating System. In Device Manager when I click on DVD/CD Rom drives, I get TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632D ATA Device. Clicking on this I find that the driver is working properly and up to date. I have never burned a CD or DVD on this system. I have run through all the steps for burning a CD, however, but even though it runs through the process of showing the progress as each song from a playlist is burned, when the disc is supposedly finalized...there is nothing on the disc. I tried burning one of the discs from the package on my sisters computer and it burned fine. It is not the discs. When I took the disc my sister had burned and placed it in the disc drive on my laptop, it displayed the tracks that had been burned and it played the music just fine. To be blunt..this has me really pissed off! The laptop is only a year old and I can't burn a single thing. I have been so outraged I have thought of burning the laptop! Unfortunately, the warranty has expired or I would ship it back to where it came from. I am desperate to get this problem fixed. I have no idea if it will burn a DVD, but I have ruined 2 boxes of CD-R discs already. After the disc has supposedly burned the music...even though no music has been burned...the disc is ruined and has to be tossed. Please rescue me from this agonizing problem!
Look for any software on the machine that uses the the burner. Start by updating it (many of these programs use what are called burning engines to process the request to write to a cd, and if theyre damaged, then the writing process will appear to occur, but wont do anything). If you use programs that download and manage music (such as Limewire, Bearshare, or Napster), uninstall them.
As a last ditch effort, you can try the istructions in this Microsoft article:
Be warned, you will have to reinstall the software needed to burn your CDs if you do this. It has fixed 99% of CD burning issues out there. Good luck
