Question about Printers & Copiers

4 Answers

Just setup this printer using a parallel connection to a new computer with Widowws XP Pro on it. I checked to HP web site for drivers and there are none, but they gave instruction about configuring the port - which I did. ( settings are use any interupt, ecp port setting and auto find). When I started the computer it went though the process of finding the printer and all went and looked as it should. Whe I send a page to the printer the printer makes a little noise but that is all. When I restart the computer it prints a page but the page only has one funny looking little circle in the upper left corner. Any idea as to what the problem is. Wish this printer had a USB port but it does not.

HP Officejet R40xi. Sorry I was doing a search on this model and thought that information would be attached

I wish there was a HP driver for this printer - it only uses a windows built in driver. It set that driver up on the install and shows it as the correct printer. The settings are correct as to lpt port number and ecp port. Everything looks correct but only prints a tiny circle on a page when doing a windows test page. Any other ideas?

    Thanks

    Ray

If you follow the instructions here , and the printer still does not work, then test the printer on a different computer, the printer may be faulty.

Hi,

Please double check in your Control Panel - Device manager that your Printer is currently installed hardware - and there are no conflicts.

Also, Make sure that your printer is set to print as "default" so the documents prints to the printer.

Update with the latest Drivers too, from HP.com site.

I hope these helps,

Thanks.

Hello and welcome draepeacock !
The only solution is a workaround :
If you have the W XP install disc , you can install a virtual version of W XP on your machine from http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
If you still have the install disc , you can also partition your primary and install W XP on the new partition from http://download.cnet.com/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html.Back up your data first.

Both are easy and safe , no specific knowledge required .

HP DESK TOP 840C PRINTER CONNECTION

Hello,

They do make adater cables for such problems. Here is just one such example: Parallel to USB Cable

Make sure you get the correct 25 pin cable. They have this type also:

Parallel to USB Cable 2

You can search the web for more companies. Google parallel to usb printer cable.

After saying all that and checking your printer info, I see that the 840c has both a parallel and a USB cable port. See page 21 of the manual: HP 840c Manual

If you go that route, you will need a standard USB cable. The shorter the better, but no longer than a 6' cable. Make sure you follow the iinstallation instructions for the USB setup in the manual.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Problem with printing on HP 6L

Make sure the parallel port is enabled in 'setup' (bios) (make sure to exit and save even if no changes were made). If you are running 'Vista', you may need to update the driver from HP.

Strange Printer Issue - HP Laserjet 2600n

The last time I checked, you cannot set up a local printer using a TCP/IP port. A local printer is physically connected to a computer via a parallel, serial (very old), or USB cable. If the printer is connected to a switch, hub, or router via an Ethernet cable, it is by definition a network printer and the driver install must reflect this. I don't understand why it is able to print out the test page after the install. If you open up Control Panel -> Printers and double-click on the HP Laserjet 2600n in there, it will bring up the local spooler for the printer. You may have a bunch of print jobs queued up in there that it cannot currently send to the printer. You may want to clear the queue first (cancel all print jobs). Let me know if you have problems clearing the queue & I can give you instructions on how to do that one too.
