Door water dispenser not working after power outage

The water supply through the door quit working after a power outage. I can hear it actuate but nothing comes out. The ice is still working fine. Ice maker working fine. Water in door stopped for no apparent reason. We have power outages often but I never thought it would affect the water dispenser, it never has in the past but...
I replaced the filter cartridge ($40!!!) but it still does not work.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The power outage is significant. It is most likely that the electronic controller circuitry was affected. This would be part # 38 in this exploded parts diagram. To check and confirm, a DVM/VOM would be required to test the output/relays of the electronic board. Additionally, this calls for testing the aforementioned PCB (printed circuit board) live and therefore voltages on wiring and terminals openly exposed. Repairs would then involve familiarity working with electronic/electrical components and circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM and safe handling of the internals of a live appliance.

Incidentally, the filter is common to both water and ice dispensers. Hence if ice is available, then the filter would presumably be good.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Any chance you can provide some steps to follow? I have the same issue. I have a DMM and some experience with electronics. I just don't know what to test or what I should expect as results to know which part needs to be replaced, etc.

Ah.. most likely your last power outage fried some kind of actuator or valve motor. Would be hard to troubleshoot without a multimeter and replacement parts.

Can't get water to come out the door frig. is one day old

You have two points where you can check the dispenser water. At the rear where the water supply comes in is the water inlet valve. If you disconnect the dispenser water line and then see if the water comes out when you try the dispenser. You should hear the valve work when you try the dispenser. If you don't hear it there is a dispenser actuator switch problem. If you do hear it but water doesn't work here there is a valve or water supply problem. If it's normal, disconnect it at the bottom of the freezer door and try again. If it's normal here it may be frozen in the door. If this is the case open the door till it thaws. A blanket over the opening will prevent thawing of all the food.

My Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator GS6NVEXSL00 wont give me the ice out the door. It makes ice, but when I press the button on the door nothing happens. Seems like the button went out. HELP!

Does the water dispenser work? Is there a light at the dispenser panel, does it light? Do you hear any noises or motors running when you actuate ice dispenser? You could have a power issue for the dispenser. Some newer whirlpool models have an issue with the wiring leading into the door at bottom being so securley fastened to frame, the lack of movement forces the wires to bend, and in time break, with door usage. If water dispenser works, and you hear no sounds when the ice lever is actuated, then you have a problem with the dispenser panel circuit board. if water works and you hear some sounds when ice lever is actuated, such as a loud popping noise, then you have a bad ice dispenser auger motor, not churning the ice out of the bucket.
