Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Ep 771 unit shutting down.

The lamp has not reached its end of life it's about halfway through. The unit powers on and the bulb is extremely bright. The unit will say warming up and then 30 second to 1 minute the lamp goes out and the unit stays on. There is no sound or flashing led lights. I'm wondering if this is a known problem or any way to fix the unit. I have tried using a replacement bulb and re seating the old bulb. For the love of god please help me!!!!

Check all the filters for dust and fur. This sounds like an overheat problem, and the easiest way of preventing damage is to remove the heat source, so the projector turns the Lamp Off. Also clarify that the fans are turning when the unit is powered up.

Lamp Reset Procedures for Toshiba TVs.

You have replaced your lamp and the set is working fine but the 'replace lamp light' is still on. What do you do?

This is an important procedure because you need to know when it is time to replace the lamp again. If you do not reset the timer you may run the risk of having the lamp explode, because it was not replaced in time. This can be dangerous and could cause a fire. At the very least it will cost you more to repair.

The manufacturers goal for having a lamp timer is to get the customer to change the lamp prior to a catastrophic event happening. Most lamps only last for about 3 years and that equates to 6000 to 8000 hours when watched for more than 8 hours per day.

To reset first make sure the TV is unplugged from the electrical outlet.
1) Turn the main power switch to the "ON" position.
2) Press and hold the "On/Standby", "Menu" and "Input" buttons at the same time. The buttons are on the projection TV. Though the same buttons are found on the remote control, the reset only works with the buttons on the TV.
3) Plug the power cord back into the outlet while holding the buttons in Step 2.
4) The lamp timer will reset when the projector receives power.

This should reset your counter and you will be ready to enjoy your TV for about another 8000 hours or three years which ever comes first.

Stony LCD 2007 goes off and screen comes on saying it needs projection lamp. Is this something I can replace myself ?

Yes, the lamps are made to be for most models replaceable by the owner.

Most the lamp is located up front behind the cover below the screen (Model number?) and you remove a door, back out two (usually Allen bolts) and the whole cartridge with lamp pulls out (has a handle).

To get a idea of lamp price Google the model number with "lamp".

You Tube has video instructions for replacing the lamp for most models---Get a original Sony replacement and not a generic one.

Bulbs are sold either loose or the whole thing with the cartridge--get the cartridge as easy to replace.

Jensen VR187 monitor will not go back in or come on.

Make sure you do not have it in Video Mode or Cable mode. Check the menu and see if you have the brightness/contrast/color and see where they are. if they are below 0 then you will have black screen. also, your state might have changed to digital programming so you will only get Canada stations only.

My television has no picture or sound it just has black background with a white horizontal line in the middle

If it's old, it's most likely reached the end of it's working life. Some older sets had a 'service' switch for repairmen, when the switch was thrown it would produce the same effect as you describe.I wouldn't really call this a solution, but get a new one.

Concept flip down monitor # cm 1520

Yes there is a fuse inside the unit, just open your unit and locate the fuse.If you aready change the fuse still not working then the problem go deeper.First, locate the horizontal output transistor. This is found very close to, or next to, the horizontal output transformer (also known as the flyback). The flyback should be on an aluminum heat sink, or on the side of the metal chassis. Disconnect or unsolder two of the three legs of the transistor. Measure it with your meter, or plug in the set with the light bulb attached across the fuse.
If the transistor is shorted, or the light bulb doesn’t glow bright anymore, replace the transistor and plug back in. If the light bulb glows bright again, you must replace both the flyback and horizontal output transistor simultaneously. In some cases this will fix the set, but sometimes there are multiple problems with a set.
Go to where the flyback is, and start measuring the diodes and capacitors on the flyback itself. If you don't find any shorts there, it could be a shorted vertical output IC, a shorted sound IC, a shorted disc capacitor in the Hi Voltage/sweep circuit, or in rare cases, a shorted capacitor or tuner. This TV monitor is small enough to take to a repair shop find a good one.You probably have to pay $50 - $75 dollars up..Feel free to ask and post whatever the result of your troubleshooting..

Hope this may help;

Very often this is caused by failing electroytic capacitors in the power supply and scan circuits. An experienced tech can troubleshoot for these parts and replace them. Most of the cost will be for the labour.
