Question about Toshiba Satellite M45-S165 Notebook
Attempt to turn on computer, no OS-tried to install windows XP home edition SP2--but unable to, 80 gigs total-75 gigs empty-windows gone, used 3 different fix cd's, computers own recovery disk does not totally work unable to do anything except for doing the above over and over
Marginal hard drive, hard drive cable, or hard drive controller (on motherboard).
Other suspect parts may be the CD ROM drive you're trying to run the OS install from. It may also be flaky, causing you to think you're loading the OS, but not really and not reporting errors until you discover the OS is not completely installed.
First thing to do is pull the HDD and cable out, reseat firmly and try again. May as well do the same for the CD/DVD drive.
