I have the same GPS system!

I haven't had any problems with it yet but the second I got it I updated the software.

I know it's obvious, but have you already tried using the webupdater?

When you're performing the reset are you just pressing the reset button on the back of the unit? How long are you pressing it?

The manual says to hold down the reset button for several seconds, if yours doesn't have a reset button it says to slide the power key to the left for 8 seconds.

My Garmin nuvi 260 is frozen - won't even turn off. Advice?

Usually they have problems going off not on, but try holding the power button for 10-15 seconds to force it to reboot.

Netgear software, picks up wireless network then loses connection moments later

Netgear generally functions well. You may simply need to adjust the location of the router. Check the signal strength when you do have a signal. You may be losing a signal intermittently because the signal is weak. If your signal is "good" or better and the signal is lost without apparent reason, there could be a malfunction with the router itself. Check the router when the signal is lost and ensure the power light is on and the connection light is on.

If your signal is weak and you lose it intermittently, adjust the location of the router

If your signal is strong and you lose it intermittently, you may be experiencing a connection problem at the source or the power may be cutting out at the modem. The more likely answer is the source signal interruption. It is rare for a power supply to go bad in those.

Check the source connection INTO the router.

You can also reset the router. You'll want to unplug everything. Unplug the power supply from the wall AND from the modem and leave it unplugged for at least 2 minutes. There may also be a very small recessed reset button (the kind that you need to use the end of a paperclip to press). Press and hold that for 10-30 seconds to reset while it's still plugged in.

When you plug everything back in, plug the power in first (to the wall and modem), then connect the source cable. Wait until you have a signal confirmation light, then try to connect with your computer.

Last but not least, the connection problem could be with your computer. Try pluging directly into the source if possible and see how that works. Then try just moving close to the wireless modem and see how the signal strength is and if you lose the signal the same way. If there is a switch on your computer to turn on the wireless feature, make sure it's all the way on. Sometimes these are kind of stuck between 'on' and 'off' and that can cause problems.

I hope one of these suggestions helps you!

I have recently bought this sat nav and would like to register it as it keeps asking me if i agree when i turnit on

Your Garmin nuvi will continue to show the warning screen after you turn it on even after you register it. It's kind of like the warnings on cigarette packets. You'll get used to it though and it wont bother you after a while.

If you haven't done so yet, go to www.my.garmin.com and register your new gps. You must register it within 60 days of aquiring the first satellite signals in order to be eligible for a free map update. And by the way, you don't have to press 'Agree' each time the warning appears, it will disappear on its own.

Had the same problem with my Garmin Nuvi 260w. It just needed to be reset. Lift up the sticker strip on the bottom of the unit and press the reset tab. Worked like a charm for me. HTH!

What you would do is, under where the model code sticker is under is the reset button. remove the sticker and hold down the reset button for 10 seconds at the same time hold the power button towards the left.

Trouble locating satellites

Hi, my name is Vince & i had that very same problem with my nuvi 200w, have you tried to update it on your pc ?, i updated mine after travelling down the motorway at 40 miles an hour thinking that their was road works after the sat nav told me. I also found that updating it seemed to increase the signal strength too, try it, it may solve your problem.

Nuvi 660 thinks it is in Kansas

Kansas is a default location. It is not getting a sat signal as it asks about being indoors. New GPS or one turned off for a long period of time or moved a large distance while off will need to download a new constellation table before it will be able to function. This may take 20 minutes or so. Unless it is a defective unit, place it where it has a clear view of unobstructed sky. And leave it on a while. Once it learns what sats to expect, it should begin to work.

My garmin nuvi 200w sat nav keeps losing the gps signal. I've done a manual reset and used the webupdater to ensure the software is up to date but still it keeps losing the gps signal

There are a few options for you...
1. Check to see under what kind of conditions the GPS loses it's signal. If there are tall buildings, is a cloudy day etc or even the position of the GPS in the car (does it have a clear sight of view of the sky)... In the latter case, you could change the position of the GPS where it gets a clear view of the sky. For Cloudy days, better have a map ready or preplan the route using mapquest/googlemaps, as nuvi 200 series is especially notorious for these type of situations. For tall building problems, what I do is (c330, not nuvi), just tap the route displayed on the top before the signal gets lost and memorize the next few upcoming turns. Or avoid downtown (where those huge skyscrapers are)
2. If you have enabled WAAS setting in the settings menu (it should be somewhere under "GPS mode", disbale/uncheck it and use the normal GPS mode. WAAS may provide you a more accurate position, but at the expense of some avaialble satellites.

3. Or your GPS may have a genuine problem, then your only recourse is to call Garmin and talk to them. Here's the contact info:

Good Luck. Personally I would avoid the 200 series and go with the 3xx, 6xx or even better the 7xx series (if you need all the bells & whistles)
