As you mentioned you replaced and checked with another speaker this clearly indicates that the speakers are prober the the internal audio connection on the main board is got shorted out due to overload current passed or due to overheating of its faulty component that board needs replacement.just get it to the repair center as you manually cannot replace this board any how.

Please check under Add/Remove program to confirm that Sigmatel/IDT audio driver and Sonic Focus component have been removed, if not, please remove them before installing the updated Sonic Focus driver.

There seems to be 2 copies of IAS driver on download center (there should only be 1, I suspect this is caused by some posting glitches), please use the newer one:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2205&DwnldID=15520&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

FYI, Intel Audio Studio (IAS) will not be supported moving forward. The latest driver would be the final IAS release.

Alternatively, u may try installing the audio driver with IDT's own GUI, which still has limited support:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2205&DwnldID=13706&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=enghttp://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2205&DwnldID=13706&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

Hope this helps.

Theproblem might be that the sound driver was corrupted or removed. Sometimes it happends if you using some DVD burning softwear.
You need to update the driver
In the device Properties dialog box, click the DRIVER tab, and then click UPDATE THE DRIVER to start the HARDWARE INSTALLATION WIZARS Follow the instructions to update the driver. You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

Think you might have fried part of your board? Seriously, I would take the panel off your box and look at the board. Can you see any dark areas near the input? Do you smell anything like a burnt smell? Especially since the speaker "glowed" and the fact that you connected another set of speakers and they didn't work either.

This means that your sound card is blown. They are cheap and easy to install. You can get 1 from walmart for 20.00. and it will have it's own install disk. The reason it's saying the drivers neeb to be loaded is because it has a problem starting the onboard sound device.

It sounds like its possible that the speakers also may have fried your audio card/onboard audio. If you give me the make and model of the computer I can better assist you. If you have onboard audio just upgrade to a sound card, if your pc has a sound card, just replace it with a new one. If this job is out of your expertise it is best to take it to a computer professional. If you need further assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,

Yes, electronic components fail with time: switches, especially capacitors, there can be dust or corrosion acting upon connections; really a multitude of age related problems CAN occur. (Not necessarily but can.) The problem becomes cost vs. benefit for repairing and another unit of that age is probably an inexpensive fix.

My Denon AVR-1709 was professionally installed. It lasted less than 2 years, then the speakers started popping, then a few days later there is no signal to any of the 5 speakers or subwoofer. same for all...

This is a case where the audio output ic's have failed, you describe a popping sound which is a classic sign of total audio collapse. Since this was a professional installation, I recommend a top of the line audio technician with an estimate in mind.

try switching the popping speaker to the other side and see if it still pops if it does then you have probably damaged the driver in the speaker if it doesnt pop then the problem probably is in the receiver

Receiver switches to standby without notice

This receiver is likely to be overheating or has a shorted speaker wire. If the unit is very warm when it shuts down then it is in need of some additional ventilation. Onkyo's tend to run hot so this is critical for proper operation. A speaker wire problem could also cause an issue when the unit detecs a no load situation.

No sound from my record turntable into my computer.

If you're certain there is no sound going out of the TT...

Setting the Pre-amp Switch
For increased flexibility of use, this turntable has an internal
stereo phono pre-amplifier. The Pre-amp Selector Switch
is located under the turntable platter, in the rear-center
(Fig. 1). If the system amplifier you are using has a PHONO
input, set the Pre-amp Selector Switch to the “OFF”
position. If your amplifier does not have a PHONO input,
set the Pre-amp Selector Switch to the “ON” position and
connect the turntable’s output cables to the AUX or other
high-level input on the amplifier (described later).

Turntable operates, but no sound at all
1. The stylus guard is still in place.
2. The tone arm Lift button is pressed in.
3. Amplifier controls set incorrectly: wrong input selected,
tape monitor on, speakers switched off, etc.
4. Check the stylus on phono cartridge for correct placement.
Refer to the instructions for replacing the stylus
on page 5.
Turntable operates, but no sound, or sound not loud
enough
1. If the turntable is connected to an AUX (high-level)
input: The Pre-amp Selector Switch may be set to the
“OFF” position (phono-input level).
2. The input gain of the amplified speaker or similar
device may be too low.
3. The stylus assembly may not be fully seated in the
cartridge body.

You could also isolate the problem to either the TT or the PC by trying the TT on some other sound device like a receiver. Make sure the PreAmp Selector switch is ON and plug the TT into any AUX, CD or TAPE input.

Same issue with my AVR-589...2-15 minutes after sound is playing (via TV or DVD). I checked all wires and speakers. Even reconfigured to audio only (analog) coming in, same issue. Put my old Denon receiver in and the problem disappears...possible overheating issue with this new unit?
