Screen goes Black

My nc 6000 laptop which is about 5 yrs old has started to have some problems. First it would over heat and shut off, that was fixed by cleaning the fan area. Now it has started to just have the screen go black. all lights are off except the power light and the fan running. I have to pull the battery and power plug and restart and it comes right back on. There is no exact time frame for when this happens could happen anywere from a couple mins up to 20 mins. Any help would be wonderful thank you.

Sounds like the inverter is on the way out. This is the power unit for the backlight in the screen, and can usually be blamed for most problems relating to the backlight going off.

When it happens, if you look at the screen, can you see a faint trace of what you should see normally? If so, then replacing the inverter will more than likely fix your problem.

It's possible that the inverter has been damaged by the overheating, however the area where it is (usually base of the screen behind the front facia or on main body near the hinge), isn't a very well cooled area. Even so, the part is fragile, and it doesn't take much to break them.

** Remove the power and batery before approaching the inverter :) **

It can be in a couple of places. First, gently remove the screws in the lid which hold the facia on. The screen should be secureed seperately, but be careful in case the panel is loose. You are looking for a little circuit board, about 3 - 4 inches long and quite thin. If it is in that area, it will be below the screen near the hinges.

If it's not there, it will be above the keyboard near the hinges again. Gently lift the facia between the keyboard and the hinges for the screen. You may have to flip the laptop over and remove a screw, which removes the keyboard, which allows access to that area.

Do be careful though, as I say the inverter is a fragile part, and also kicks out a fair amount of voltage, so make sure that the power is removed, and also the battery before you try this.

I'm going to guess and say that since the computer has had some over heating problems in the past, that there might still be a problem with that. Or the over heating befor, has caused some damage to thelight in the LCD screen.

It seems to be a problem with your operating systems (Windows perhaps).
If you are not an experienced user, have it checked by someone else. The easies way
to check whether the computer is OK is to boot some Linux Operating System from the CD, or at least insert windows installation cd and try to start the installating procedure. You will see the option to repair the current installation.

Sounds like a software error. When the screen has been blaxk for a minute or two try hitting control+alt+del and use the task manager to start the process explorer.exe if so then there is a registry or windows error and needs to be repaired.

MY HP COMPAQ NC 6000 LAPTOP request a Drivelock HDD bay password

Hi kala_mumbe,

I know how you feel as my HP pavilion has had the same blue screen ansking for the 'drivelock multibay password' . the good news is i have fixed it just 5 mins ago.

I think that you have to get into the bios first. Lets see if I can show you how I helped it to boot up:
  1. at the blue screen I pressed the F10 Key which took me into setup
  2. i then selected the security tab
  3. and then I think I selected drivelock password
  4. and then selected the "Notebook hard drive" item where I tried to disable, with no success

PLEASE NOTE: at this point I noticed that each time that i tried to disable the password it kept returning to the item 'Notebook hard drive' . I thought to myself that maybe this is the password and not just an item on the list, so I carefully wrote down .. Notebook hard drive .. taking note of capitalization and spaces and then exited setup.
  5. I then noticed that there was nowhere to enter the password so i carefully typed .. Notebook hard drive .. onto the keyboard, and waited. After about 1 min a small 'OK' appeared inside the blue box and my heart leaped for joy inside my chest.
  6. I waited... and a black screen apeared with the wite cursor blinking
  7. and I waited... this time about 5 mins passed and then windows started to load. Thank God!
I hope you get some joy out of this post and it's not too late for your Campac Laptop.

happy, happy

Tv started to shut off here and there, then the

Hi,samsung has 3 major failures. The 1st one is the lamp, which averages 6000-8000 hrs 2-4 yrs. When it's about to go bad it shuts off and on or image won't come at all.You can find your part here:http://www.discount-merchant.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=BP9601472A Another problem that causes tv to shut off is the ballast, which is the board that powers the lamp.It makes clicking sounds and will cause pic to flicker. The other problem is the color wheel .The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises.Have a bless one!

you could have accidently changed to external monitor with Fn +F(the number is 8 on my comp but could be 5 on yours-check keys on top of the keyboard it has a picture rectangle / little TV), anyways to check that attach external monitor to your laptop(must have a VGA cable) if you have a picture on external monitor try Fn + F(depends on what you have on ur keyboard) it should bring you a window with choices to choose laptop LCD or external LCD choose 1st one .
hope that is it.

My hp pavilion dv9000 17 power on but see black screen

If your 9000 is under two years old, you should contact HP customer care and have unit serviced under warranty.
HP has had allot of problems with the 6000 and 9000 units and in response has offered an additional year from date of purchase.
Its worth a shut. Doesn't cost a dime.
Hope this information has helped you.
